Catoctin Creek Distillery, Purcellville

Must see · Distillery · Food & Drink
Catoctin Creek® Distilling Company was founded by Becky and Scott Harris in 2009 as the first legal distillery in Loudoun County since before Prohibition. We are located in Purcellville, Virginia, in the heart of the Loudoun Valley. Loudoun County, often called D.C.'s Wine Country, is home to more than twenty vineyards and wineries, and it now has a distillery.

The name "Catoctin" is a regional name. Pronounced Ka-TOCK-tin, the name derives from the Indian tribal name "Kittocton" which, legend has it, meant "place of many deer". Catoctin describes a range of mountains and the creek which flows picturesquely into the Potomac River and Chesapeake Watershed.

  • One word - AWESOME! Mix-up in online scheduling of tour led us to arrive a day late - not to worry, staff quickly addressed and took care of us in the most professional way. Received 5-star...  more »
  • Great informative tour and even better whiskey. The cocktails are as wonderful as the staff. Everyone is kind and welcoming.  more »
  • Very knowledgeable guide on the workings of the distillery. Also very personable. This is a craft distillery so very small. We sampled the rye and gin. Very good. Had a Free Brittany cocktail too!  more »
  • Fabulous stop, interesting gin, a little more citrus than juniper. Great rye - not generally a rye drinker, more into the burbon; this was great. So many goodies to take home! Make sure you put this place on your itinerary!
  • I went to Catoctin distillery on a sunday afternoon. It was a great experience. Peter told us all about the workings of a distillery while on the tour. He was knowledgeable and answered all our questions. The cask strength and 80 proof whiskies were my favorites. My wife loved the watershed gin and the peach brandy. I would definitely go back soon.
  • This distillery hosted our company's Christmas party. I have never been before and I was so impressed. The cocktails resembled world known traditional favorites, but with a unique special touch that sets them apart from the rest. I did stick to the whiskey, but my fellow colleagues recommended other drinks with different spirits as well. Food that was catered was delicious. Hats off the chef. Well definitely be going back here on my own time.
  • This was our first stop of the day and we were warmly welcomed by Peter and Jenn. A couple of us tried the brandy flight which had pear, peach and apple brandies. I thought the pear was weak tasting but the peach and apple were very good. The other three of us tried the whiskey flight. The first was 80 proof rye, the second was 86 proof single barrel rye and the third was 120 cask proof. The first was watery, the second had great taste, nice balance, and the third one burned a bit all the way down. Peter was very knowledgeable and very friendly. Since this was our first stop we didn't stay long but will definitely go back again.
  • Fantastic place to catch a whiskey buzz
