  • School - perhaps even more than the University of Brown - is the big lung of the city, engine of its rebirth. It is worth visiting it and take advantage of the weekend's open (October)

  • Loved this place. A small but very well made museum with very accurate and detailed explanation. Special appraisal should be given to its textile collection. Don't miss it!
  • RISD is a treasure-trove of talent and shouldn't be missed on your next visit to Providence. The museum is amazing, but the highlights of RISD are the studios which buzz with massive talent!
  • Of course, it's one of the great design and art school;s in the world, but also fun and interesting to visit.

Where to stay in Providence

Most of the guest beds in Providence lie in and around downtown; this is the most convenient area to stay in during your visit. Right downtown you'll find a handful of large hotels from national chains. Rooms here can be pricey, but many offer sweeping views of Providence Harbor. Federal Hill features a few locally owned inns, bed and breakfasts, and small hotels in historical buildings. You'll find additional homey establishments around the State House just north of downtown and the College Hill area across the Providence River to the east. Avoid the South Providence area and East Providence across the Seekonk River.
