The drive around the park is beautiful. We especially loved the area near the dam with playgrounds, tennis, basketball, etc. We stayed at the lodge. The room was ok, not great, seemed a little older a... read more »
Our lodge room was deplorable; no one seems to care about the lodge since the fire. We stayed in KSP in the 80's and 90's and the were wonderful; not again for JWR. Room was musty, no air/heat, screen... read more »
The setting of this park is quite scenic. We rented a pontoon boat for half a day and the price was reasonable and made for an enjoyable time. It seems the current state administration is busy making ... read more »
We had a family reunion here, renting five cabins and the Pines Building for two days. Had a very good time and the staff were very helpful. However, we stayed in cabin 407 and there had to be something dead in the kitchen. I searched all over, because you could hardly do anything at the sink or stove without the stench prevailing. I forgot to mention it to the staff on our way out, but hoping they noticed it when they cleaned, though they missed it when they cleaned before us. Beds were very comfy, and AC worked great in the cabins, though it had a hard time keeping up in the Pines Building during the afternoon, where we would spend the day.
Concierge is under construction due to a fire in the spring. Check in room is temporary yet available 24/7. Pool is clean. Lodge rooms are clean yet dated. No microwave or refrigerator in room. Thermostat hard to understand. But, someone always available and willing to help. Park rangers are very nice and respectable as long as you respect the park. I would expect nothing less. Outdoor theater is located behind the restaurant. Very active musicals going on every weekend. Golf course is tiny, but sufficient . Location is convenient to Prestonsburg and shopping.
Beds were clean, bathroom was well stocked. Bathroom tiles looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a few months. Nice people, good service, good pool.
As a descendant of Jenny Wiley, I am proud to say that yes, this IS the Crown Jewel of the Kentucky State Parks System! There's something for everyone here; peace and quiet, great dining, stunning scenery, and great theater. Staff is 5 🌟
They have live music on Fridays and it's not overly packed. It's pretty perfect.
