Portland Museum of Art houses one of the largest collections in the region, with over 17,000 paintings and objects. The museum, founded in 1882, is also one of the oldest in the area. Celebrating local artists as well as international ones, the museum features a State of Maine Collection with artists such as Winslow Homer and Marsden Hartley. You can visit the studio of Winslow Homer where he lived and painted from 1883 to 1910 and learn about the artistic heritage of the artist and the area.   • Elegant Art Museum unfortunately probably able to interest only connoisseurs of art. The average pumpkin bread rather watches images in about half an hour and will be able to be considered a completed visit. Exposition of the very American, and despite a special exhibition of the works of Mattisa not interest me for longer than an hour.

  • Wonderful collection of art. Went here on a rainy day since we couldn't do much more and I'm so glad we did. I recommend anyone that stops in Maine to visit this museum.
  • Staff here is wonderful, beautiful pieces of Art. Anyone visiting Portland should definitely make this a destination on their trip.
  • Who would have thought Portland would have such a great Museum. Locals and visitors should spend time here. I've been a member for years and always find something new to enjoy.
  • Really good collection for a small city. Neat building. Got lucky and enjoyed a nice free tour when we arrived.
