Portland Museum of Art houses one of the largest collections in the region, with over 17,000 paintings and objects. The museum, founded in 1882, is also one of the oldest in the area. Celebrating local artists as well as international ones, the museum features a State of Maine Collection with artists such as Winslow Homer and Marsden Hartley. You can visit the studio of Winslow Homer where he lived and painted from 1883 to 1910 and learn about the artistic heritage of the artist and the area.   • Wonderful collection of art. Went here on a rainy day since we couldn't do much more and I'm so glad we did. I recommend anyone that stops in Maine to visit this museum.
