Sands Point Preserve, Port Washington
(4.5/5 based on 100 reviews on the web)
The 216-acre former Guggenheim Estate, now called the Sands Point Preserve, is an exhibition of past and future natural beauty, human creativity and achievement. On this site, steep cliffs overlook a mile of sandy beach directly on Long Island Sound. A sparkling pong teeming with wildlife runs from uplands almost to the coast, resulting in a melding of saltwater and freshwater species. Silent trails meander through deep woods. Walk century-old stone bridges and gaze in wonder at peerless castles and Gatsby-era country homes that are the embodiment of a golden era.

  • Not able to take advantage of the tours as it was Columbus Day. However for only $10 a car you can drive/walk in the gardens and view the buildings. Well worth the entrance fee, just to do this.
  • Sands point preserve is a beautiful serene experience, with various nature trails and children's trails as well. It is a lovely way to spend the afternoon with children and families. The grounds are s...  more »

  • It's beautiful and spacious. There's a trail that leads to the coastal, rocky beach. Be warned though, there are some bees in the picnic areas.
  • Lovely scenic haven nestled in Port Washington. There's enough woodlands and greenery to walk in, beautiful beach scenery and cozy spots to have a picnic. Sands Point is dog friendly and there is ample parking.
  • Nice place. Relaxing and peaceful.
