Wildlife Area
The 216-acre former Guggenheim Estate, now called the Sands Point Preserve, is an exhibition of past and future natural beauty, human creativity and achievement. On this site, steep cliffs overlook a mile of sandy beach directly on Long Island Sound. A sparkling pong teeming with wildlife runs from uplands almost to the coast, resulting in a melding of saltwater and freshwater species. Silent trails meander through deep woods. Walk century-old stone bridges and gaze in wonder at peerless castles and Gatsby-era country homes that are the embodiment of a golden era.

  • Money alone does not make happy! The Builder of sands point was because his wife thus was not satisfied, on the vast grounds built even the "Hempstead House". The end of the story his wife left him because of the architect, then by the Guggenheim was acquired and used for many years.

  • It's beautiful and spacious. There's a trail that leads to the coastal, rocky beach. Be warned though, there are some bees in the picnic areas.
  • Lovely scenic haven nestled in Port Washington. There's enough woodlands and greenery to walk in, beautiful beach scenery and cozy spots to have a picnic. Sands Point is dog friendly and there is ample parking.
  • Nice place. Relaxing and peaceful.
