  • This museum is a definite must! They have so many exhibits and memorabilia! There is a Rt 66 museum,1940s room, Civil War Music Room, War Museum and much more! All the volunteers were very nice and kn...  more »
  • I associate Museum with knowledge, therefore this term is a bit flattering. Who looks at remnants and souvenirs, as well as newspaper articles to the route 66 but with a twinkle in his eye and takes the missing pedagogical concept with humor, can spend a nice hour. However, the heart of this museum is the staff, which makes the visit a nice experience. Extremely helpful, friendly and full of stories and tips to route 66 and the environment! Great! If you like the kitsch of route 66, like also this museum.

  • Start your in Chicago with the drive from route 66 museum in Pontiac is a good first stop for all things about the history of this road and the attractions in Illinois. Enthusiastic volunteers take the time to explain everything to you and you will get a wealth of information. The museum itself has a nice collection, highlighted by the cars of Bob Waldmire. You will also find a living/sleeping room from the old days and a studio. In the building itself are various rooms decorated with photos of the various States plus an army museum. Everything for free.

  • This entire town should get the recognition it deserves! And the museum and other things to do in that little town are amazing! We met the mayor and if he's anything like he was to us, I'd like to see him run for president! I can't wait to go back there again!
  • First of all, why would you drive by a town called Pontiac without stopping at the Route 66 Museum? Great memorabilia and it's quite large. Nicely displayed. Admission is by optional donation. Helpful staff. Glad I stopped.
  • Cool stop. The museum was open at 9:30 on a Sunday morning
  • We had a great time visiting all the museum's in Pontiac. Best part about it they are all free. They do accept donations.
  • Great little place to visit. 3 stories of floor space to visit. Each floor is something a little different. The building is an old firehouse that was converted. On the back of the build is the Route 66 Mural. And if luck the Bob Waldmire Bus.
