Smallish park, but have never seen it crowded. Lake for fishing, but no motorized vessels. Only canoe and kayak. Great hiking trails. One trail leads to a fire tower that you can climb to the top for ... read more »
Arrived Friday at noon to our campsite. There was no ranger to check in so we just set up our tent at our campsite. Oddly empty campsite and many sites were "closed" due to construction although no co... read more »
I was here on New Years Day for the #firsthike and it was a trip well spent. We hiked the Turkey Call Trail, then across the boardwalk, up the highest point in McNairy county, visited the observation ... read more »
Awesone park for day-out, trekking. Nice obervation tower. Loved it. Plan for 4 hrs at least . Hills and lake is too good. Get music and offline maps. Trails are confusing. No mobile signal - so be prepared. We downloaded offline google maps.
This place is amazing, but DO NOT come out here on memorial weekend. People are so disrespectful and loud at 2 am. I couldn't get ahold of a park ranger to have somebody say something. We asked them to be quiet and they couldn't. All in all this is a great place to be, but if you have kids or want to sleep at a decent time, save your money and camp in your back yard.
Amazing place! The park manager Jim is a really awesome friendly guy. He was super helpful and hospitable. We back-country camped a few nights in the wilderness and he went out of his way to give us amenities and take care of us. The showers were amazingly clean and hot. The campground was great as well. The trails are impressive and worth the hike; especially the dismal swamp boardwalk and the beautiful views from the lookout tower. We will definitely be returning here again probably just to visit Jim. Thanks so much for the genuine southern hospitality Jim!
This place is amazing! We stayed two nights with 15 Boy Scouts from Alamo, TN. We stayed in Scout Camp 4, which was perfect for a group our size and conveniently close to the restroom/bathhouse. We hiked the Big Hill Pond Trail (6 miles) and cleaned up two bags full of trash and debris from the trail. (Scouts love service projects!) The trail was marked well, and the scenery was fantastic, especially the views of the big lake. We saw a tree that had been struck by lightning and apparently exploded. We found pieces of the tree more than 100 yards away. We will definitely be returning to Big Hill Pond State Park for more hiking and camping in the future. I can't think of anything negative to say about this park. Maybe just that I wish the park office/store was open on Saturday. We wanted to get some hiking medallions, hats, souvenirs; etc. Overall, I'm still giving this place 5 stars, and we'll definitely be back .
We loved this park. The trails were well marked. The view was spectacular from the top of the tower. We can not wait to go back and hike some different trails. The Ranger was very friendly at the park office.
