Pilgrim Memorial State Park, Plymouth

4.2
#2 of 8 in Parks in Plymouth
Pilgrim Memorial State Park comprises two monuments — Plymouth Rock and the National Monument to the Forefathers — in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Closely related to these memorials is the Myles Standish Monument State Reservation which can be seen across the Plymouth Bay in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Owned by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, these sites are managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.HistoryPilgrim Memorial State Park was created in 1920 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Pilgrim landing. Landfill was brought in and the shoreline changed, creating arms of land around Plymouth Rock. The portico designed by McKim, Mead and White was completed and other memorials donated and dedicated.

  • Beautiful location for an afternoon stroll through the park with gorgeous waterfront views filled with boats. Parking is a little limited, although if you arrive early there's lots of space. The area ...  more »
  • The view of water was nice. Not over crowded but we went off season and a weekday. Some of the area was under construction (sidewalks) and made it a little difficult to walk around as much as we would...  more »
  • The actual Plymouth Rock is very small now compared to what my parents and grandparent saw many, many years ago due to people cutting the rock to take souvenir pieces in the past. It's a good thing th...  more »

  • Nice rock with the year engraved on it. Don't believe this particular rock had anything to do with the mayflower landing. The mayflower II was not at the location. It was being renovated. It was the off season so not much open. So maybe I was missing something. Didn't see much else. Nice shoreline
  • As a historical site, it's obviously important to our country's heritage. It is a bit underwhelming in person and you'll need to plan other things for the day. The Mayflower II ship used to be a fun attraction for the kids, but it sailed away last year. There are local shops around but most don't keep regular schedules in the off-season. You should only plan to spend about 30 minutes here, including pictures. This is not an "all day" event.
  • It was nice. Free Parking is limited, but there is plenty of other parking within walking distance. All the parking meters were covered, so I did not have to pay. From here, it is only a short walk to the downtown area and other historical sites.
  • Nice park by the ocean. Limited, but free, parking. Wonderful place to start a walk along the ocean. I almost always seem to be here in winter when there are no crowds. Does tend to be crowded on weekends in the summer. Good place for a picnic or walk to any of several food restaurants nearby.
  • Not as exciting as I expected. It's a beautiful park and there is a delicious seafood restaurant super close. Also, there was a guide near plymouth rock that was knowledgeable and welcomed our questions. I guess I just expected the rock to be bigger
