Pilgrim Memorial State Park, Plymouth

#2 of 9 in Parks in Plymouth
Pilgrim Memorial State Park comprises two monuments — Plymouth Rock and the National Monument to the Forefathers — in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Closely related to these memorials is the Myles Standish Monument State Reservation which can be seen across the Plymouth Bay in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Owned by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, these sites are managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.HistoryPilgrim Memorial State Park was created in 1920 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Pilgrim landing. Landfill was brought in and the shoreline changed, creating arms of land around Plymouth Rock. The portico designed by McKim, Mead and White was completed and other memorials donated and dedicated.

  • The Memorial Park to the arrival of Mayfower II in 1620 is situated right on arrival in the city, by the sea and is surrounded by trees and lawns. There is also the location of the stone that marks the site of arrival and also many souvenir shops and restaurants around.

  • As the title describes, it's a rock in a cage. Clean and right on the water. There's a surrounding park and promenade, a nice stroll. Picturesque. Enjoyed the shops and eateries. Good parking along th...  more »

  • A very cool spot. Obviously it is where Plymouth Rock sits. But beyond that, there are a lot of interesting stuff to do. There is a walking tour throughout the Park and surrounding areas which highlights important landmarks. Best bet is to download a tour guide app on your phone. It will guide you through the area and explain the significance. The Cemetery, right nearby within walking distance should be added to your trip as well. Many graves of the actual people who founded our Country as well as Civil War Vets and the public. I will say that I felt the "strip" was a bit commercialized. More so than I remember as a child. Still a must see.
  • Great time had by all. Took my new family on a vacation to where I grew up. Being from Oklahoma they had never seen the east coast and all of the Pilgrim history. A definite must see for anyone going to the area.
  • Beautiful place to walk or ride a bike through, we rode though and stopped quite a bit. The guides that were there were very knowledgeable. It made it a little more enjoyable to have our questions about history answered. There are also lovely views of the harbor and Plymouth Rock is there too. Always looking forward to going back whenever possible.
  • Very authentic piece of recreated history. Live demonstrations and plenty of things to do. Spent a good 2 hours walking around and learning about that time period. Well worth the trip.
  • Beautiful here! Lots of nice touches like the beautifully painted Adirondack chairs that are scattered around & the pretty lobsters that are part of the lobster crawl.
