  • There are endless hikes, walks, creeks, lakes and places to visit in the National Forest. What a treasure to have in my back yard.
  • This gorgeous high mountain area offers many things for everyone. Beautiful lakes, hiking trails, lodges and resorts... plenty to see and do in any season.

  • Most people just drive through the forest on 50 to get to South Lake Tahoe and never see more than the tress by the highway. There are tons of hikes and little towns off the main drag, and it's easy to find a place to hike or camp. Backpacking requires permits, so always contact the ranger station when planning a trip! I recommend the Ralston Peak area. It's close to Tahoe, but feels like the back country.
  • We went on Memorial Day weekend and searched for a picnic spots. They charged us $8 for day access and I cannot say we enjoyed it. One smelly bathroom with no sink. LOTS of bugs. So many in fact that we had to leave without picnicking. There are a lot of better sites in this area. We ended up at Pollock Pines, which was lovely. Don't waste your time at Eldorado.
  • Well, keep in mind that this place was once burned down so it isn't much of a forest anymore. Also, Google maps should let you know that the trail is meant for OFFROADING vehicles only.. didn't know that as we attempted to drive my Nissan Sentra into the paved, then gravel, then dirt road.
