PPG Paints Arena, Pittsburgh

4.6
Watch the Penguins play hockey at PPG Paints Arena, an indoor arena that is home to a number of sporting and cultural events year-round. This arena, which can host up to 19,000 people, was built in 2010 to replace an older Civic Center that was constructed in 1961. Concerts here have featured Lady Gaga and Paul McCartney, to name a few. It's the place to go to see the National Hockey League's Pittsburgh Penguins play on their home turf. You can also watch arena football's Pittsburgh Power here. To find out how the stadium became LEED Gold Certified, or to learn more about its history, take a guided tour of the facilities, including exclusive suites and some locker rooms. Home of the Stanley Cup Champion! Parking is pricey. Great venue though. If you are going, you can take the trolley, bus, cab or uber as it is in the city.  more »

This was our first visit to this venue as we live in Central PA, not Pitt. We came to see Bob Seger. We loved the venue which we felt had a great sound system. The arena was comfortable understanding ...  more »

We attended the Pens hockey game here, and it was a fantastic experience! The atmosphere was electric, and the staff was all very nice and welcoming. The arena is beautiful, and I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. I can't speak for concerts because I have never seen one here, but it is a phenomenal venue for hockey. Food prices are expensive, but the selection is pretty good - no complaints really; it's like every other sports arena. PPG Paints Arena's welcoming and enthralling environment is just awesome, and I highly recommend that everyone goes to a hockey game there at some point!

I had an opportunity to go watch NHL while I was visiting Pittsburgh in May. We had seats at one of their suites, which is always a great experience. I have only seen NHL game from a regular seats, so this was going to be very exciting! The arena was right in downtown, easily accessible. Legends Suites comes with food and drinks. They had nice lounge area with comfy seats, counter seats facing the arena, and of course, stadium seating as well. They had water, beer, and soda cans in the refrigerator. If you want to drink something different, like some wines, we could simply request them to the staff in charge of our suite. The staffs were very attentive and nice. They had some food prepared on the counter, such as fruits, subs, chips and flat bread. It is not the best food out there in the world, but with the awesome suite experience, food is not the main focus. Watching the game from such relaxing, fancy spot is the focus. One thing was that their suite did NOT come with a bathroom. The bathroom was located right outside of the suite, and you must have your ticket with a bar code in order to come back in. There was a scanner right by the door on the outside, where you simply scan your ticket, and the door unlocks. However, a really cool gift that is included in this suite is their team, Penguin hat for everyone. I certainly got my yellow Penguin hat, really cute! This was a fun experience, we had a totally exciting time here watching the game while lounging, drinking and eating. Read my full review of the suite and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.

Outstanding arena. I live in Raleigh NC, which has another great venue in PNC Arena, but PPG Paints beats it hands down. It eschews the typical "cement tube with tunnel leading into the bowl" arena design for a completely open upper walkway, where you can look down on the action before descending to your upper-tier seat. Probably removes some of the loudness since it's not a closed bowl overhead, but really, really enhances the experience for the fans in attendance. Plus, the views from the completely plate glass front entrance as you head up to the top are amazing! A showcase for Pittsburgh, and a fitting home for the 2017 Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins!

Very beautiful arena. Friendly staff greeted us and welcomed us as it was our first time there. Every seat is a great view of the stage. Great acoustics. Also great parking all around the arena.

We attended the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert here, and it was a great time! The arena was easy to get to, and there's plenty of parking available. Every single usher, cashier, etc. couldn't have been more polite or helpful. Plenty of concessions and restrooms, easy entrance and exits ~ highly recommend. Pittsburgh is a great place!

Where to stay in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh's downtown area is so packed with hotels it is often possible to get top rooms here at bargain prices. Bear in mind that most visitors to Pittsburgh want to stay in this central part of town, so you do need to look for discounts early and book well in advance. If you're visiting universities or other attractions outside of Pittsburgh itself, you can find comfortable airport accommodations just west of the city. Consider also the college neighborhood of Oakland, offering some of the least expensive rooms in Pittsburgh.
