We stopped here on our way for a bathroom break and it ended up being bigger than we expected. Lots of planes to see outside and information inside. It was a free museum. Bought some astronaut ice cre... read more »
The exhibits outside are breath taking. Did not have a chance to do the base tour, or go inside, however, we will defiantly stop again when we have more time.
We enjoyed the free South Dakota Air and Space Museum and then took the tour to Ellsworth Air Force Base. It was nice to see how large the base was and all it offered but how it once had 10,000 on bas... read more »
We just had a wonderful stay at pone tree inn on the base. We had two adjoining rooms with kitchenettes each room, pull out sleep sofas and separate bedrooms and bathrooms. Not only were the rooms wonderful with every convenience necessary but there was also a laundry room that was free. We were able to cook our own meals, wash every night and sleep well. The AC in each room worked great as well. We were also only 30-40 minutes away from Mount Rushmore; Wind and jewel caves were a bit farther but definitely worth it. The staff at Pine Tree were great and we would definitely stay there again.
I was stationed at EAFB from 1973-74. (Hospital Squadron) I had a blast hiking in the Black Hills around Mt. Rushmore. I can't say that I had as much fun on base but I was too young at the time (19) to realize how good the Air Force was for me. As much as I disliked military life while I was in it, I actually miss it now, over 40 years later, especially when I find myself reminiscing about the guys I hung out with. You will never have closer friends than the one's you had in the military.
We were stationed there in the last 70's for 3.5 years. Probably my least favorite assignment.
My husband was there when we married in 1957. We lived there 3 years. Made some really good friends. A fascinating experience. Loved the snow.
Was stationed there 81-83. Just went back to sturgis bike week. Visited for the day and brought back great memories. Really miss it. Beautiful area to live.
