  • The Phoenix Mountain Preserve is a great place for novices to go hiking. The trails are not steep and the scenery is beautiful. Be sure to take adequate water with you.  more »
  • This preserve is made up of several different areas and I know that I went to at least two of them: Piestewa and North Mountain. Both areas have parking areas and some signs. However both places need ...  more »

  • Nice short hike. Can be pretty steep at some parts, I wouldn't recommend doing this hike in your every day shoes. There are just a few spots on the trail where the dirt is a little crumbley beneath your feet. I feel the trail isn't always visible at times but it's easy to find the trail again and continue on. Once you get to the top, the views are some the best you can get on any trail in the city. (PS if you know what that circular silo looking building is in the mountain from a distance, please let me know)
  • There are tons of short and long trails here with many different elevations, some steep and some relatively flat. This is a dog-friendly mountain with lots of friendly people. It's rarely crowded. You can look out over Moon Valley on the West, Scottsdale on the East, Phoenix (sort of) and Cave Creek on the North. Fabulous sunrises and sunsets from all vantage points.
  • We did Lookout Mountain circumference, #308, and summit, #150, with our pit bull puppy. It's a great trail for medium or large dogs! Plus, the view from the summit was awesome. Many families were out hiking, too. Definetly a place we will come back to!
  • Small parking lot, trail 308 was fun but very rocky for my soft sole shoes (I took a wrong turn and accidentally left the trail for a while, my hike ended up being a little longer than expected and with 354 ft elevation). This was the North entrance, by 16th Street South of Greenway Parkway. Not much traffic here for a Saturday morning (9ish am).
  • Great hiking paths from easy to medium in difficulty. Lots of parking
