  • On our new England tour, Portland Maine past always the coastal highway 1 along, wanted to drive time about a peninsula of bath on the road 209 at the end of the road. Behold we reached Fort Popham State historic site. A fortress which was never used, but continually robust to withstand. The views of the many islands off the coast is very nice. Unfortunately, there is no cell phone reception, the whole 209 road quite beautifully strange for such a high-tech country like the United States. First in bath, we again had reception.

  • If it about location, this place is it. Right at the river entrance, guarding the river at its narrowest. If it's about interesting, this is the place. Marvel at the granite work, explore the darkest chambers. Parking is limited, free. Everything else is just free.
  • Really nice spot on the river. Parking is super limited though!
  • the beach was fantastic. went crab hunting out on the island during low tide. make sure to check out the forts too.
  • What an amazing piece of history. You must stop and see it. It will blow your mind away how they built this on location and carved all the granite by hand. Incredible.
  • Love the the forts and all the historical significance that it holds there and the beach is beautiful.
