  • I love this park! It's a great place to sit and have lunch or ice cream and people watch. There's always people walking their dogs or spending time with their family. Plenty of benches, trash cans, an...  more »
  • We stopped at Washington Square on our walk from our hotel to to Independence Hall. It is a very pretty spot. Immersed in history which itself is not so pretty today the Park is somewhat of an oasis i...  more »
  • This has a tomb of the unknown soldiers for the revolutionary war in the center of a nice park. There is a story behind the tree with being buried with sand from the moon!  more »

  • Awesome park. There are stoops in the park saved by an artist from the old city. It's a very welcome addition to this solemn but fun park. Fountain in the middle with some plaques and information. It was originally designed by William Penn as an open space for the city residents as well as a fire break. It houses the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier which is an amazing thing to revere. Thousands of prisoners of war were buried here by the British during the revolution. Breath taking.
  • This is a pleasant park, one of the four originally planned by William Penn. In addition to being a lovely neighborhood park, it is also a potter's field; in other words, it's a cemetery with hundreds of unmarked graves. One grave site that is marked is the Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary War Soldier. This park is great for history buffs or those who simply want to relax.
  • A little off the beaten track but worth the short walk. Take a few minutes to enjoy the scenery and remember the sacrifices of our Revolutionary soldiers.
  • Nice open park space near Independence Hall. Picturesque enough to have several wedding parties taking wedding photos. Great place to people watch or take young kids who may enjoy running around on the grass
  • A much more quiet and less crowded square than Rittenhouse Square, just just as green

Where to stay in Philadelphia

Most of Philadelphia's hotels cluster around the compact city center, ensuring quick and easy access to major tourist sights and activities. The only drawback to staying in this area is the lack of free parking, so if you're exploring by car, considering booking into a bed and breakfast in one of the city's residential blocks. Visitors planning on longer stays can also consider several apartment hotels, offering spacious furnished units with complimentary Wi-Fi, free bike rentals, and access to rooftop terraces.
