University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia

4.5
#15 of 72 in Sightseeing in Philadelphia
University / School Tourist Spot
Tour University of Pennsylvania to see the largest of the Ivy League universities and arguably the oldest university in the United States. The school combines an intimate charm with plenty of opportunities for exploring. Founded by Benjamin Franklin, the campus boasts one of the world's best archaeology museums--a testament to its leadership in that field in the 19th and 20th centuries. Catch a football or basketball game if the season's right, tour the auditorium to see its incredible interior design, take in the campus architecture, or stop at the performing arts venue. Though in the heart of the city, the university retains a countryside feel, with many walking trails and a botanical garden. All the same, the urban setting offers convenient proximity to transportation and restaurants. Where to stay in Philadelphia

Most of Philadelphia's hotels cluster around the compact city center, ensuring quick and easy access to major tourist sights and activities. The only drawback to staying in this area is the lack of free parking, so if you're exploring by car, considering booking into a bed and breakfast in one of the city's residential blocks. Visitors planning on longer stays can also consider several apartment hotels, offering spacious furnished units with complimentary Wi-Fi, free bike rentals, and access to rooftop terraces.

  • We Love it Here! They have everything...movie theater, lots of diverse restaurants and clubs. It's like a community within a community, living together.
  • Very nice campus. Filled with well designed buildings and is filled with art. Although I do not go to UPenn, I have been here numerous times, and the atmosphere is wonderful.
  • Only rating for campus, it is very nice and almost like its not by/in the city
  • THEY HAVE THE BEST DOCTORS AND NURSING STAFF!!! THE PHARMACY YOU ONLY WAIT A COUPLE OF MINUTES. THEY ARE THE BEST!!!
  • I am in the ER with my father for 3 1/2 hours now,he is suffering terrible from cancer and urinary retention, the manager comes out to talk to to her friend who has asked for her who is here with a family member. I had asked how much longer, he is suffering. Her friend was called back Who was here less than 1 hour. The Politics here sucks, my Dad wants to leave and go somewhere else. The only reason I am staying is because of his doctor an2 we are hoping to still get chemo today.
