Terror Behind the Walls, America’s largest haunted house, is located inside the massive castle-like walls of Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA. Now in its 24th year, this extraordinary theatrical production is consistently ranked among the top haunted attractions in the country. In 2014, Terror Behind the Walls runs on select evenings from September 19 through November 8. The event is the largest of its scale to offer visitors the option of an immersive experience.

Terror Behind the Walls begins with a critical decision: should you explore the prison and watch the action, or should you mark yourself to truly interact with the denizens of the cellblocks? Those who opt in for true interactivity may be grabbed, held back, sent into hidden passageways, removed from their group, and even occasionally incorporated into the show. They will deal with the consequences of their decision through six long attractions.
For travelers who use our world travel planner, Philadelphia holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Terror Behind The Walls and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Went with a group of friends, we were clinging to each other we were so scared! I recommend opting in to the "hightened experience". It lets the actors grab you and take you to other places. It made it tons more fun! Definitely recommended.
  • The most scary haunted house I ever been too very fun. Get the glow stick options so the actors can take you into this room. Lol
  • Don't know why this doesn't have all 5 star reviews. It's super scary (I love it) and you have the option of being touched or not through the attraction. It is longish (1 hr or so) it's great. I'm going back again!
  • Absolutely the best haunted house we've been too!!! It was worth the money!
  • Always reinventing themselves into a better scare..cant wait to see what they come up w next yr
