Terror Behind The Walls, Philadelphia

3.5
Terror Behind the Walls, America’s largest haunted house, is located inside the massive castle-like walls of Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA. Now in its 24th year, this extraordinary theatrical production is consistently ranked among the top haunted attractions in the country. In 2014, Terror Behind the Walls runs on select evenings from September 19 through November 8. The event is the largest of its scale to offer visitors the option of an immersive experience.

Terror Behind the Walls begins with a critical decision: should you explore the prison and watch the action, or should you mark yourself to truly interact with the denizens of the cellblocks? Those who opt in for true interactivity may be grabbed, held back, sent into hidden passageways, removed from their group, and even occasionally incorporated into the show. They will deal with the consequences of their decision through six long attractions.

  • One of the most creative, fun, and scary haunts I've been to! Of course they have the obvious advantage of set design, but they don't slack when it comes to creativity and monsters. The "touch/no-touch" plan with necklaces is brilliant. I've gone for several years and chuckled as we've wandered through the maze looking at the glowsticks scattering the floors from people tapping out. I love it. Keep up the great work, and get weirder ;)
  • I actually love this place... I’ve been coming here for several years and it’s just such great quality and value for the price. Actors are great, staff is always nice. The only negative thing is definitely the amount of people. I did feel too close to people quite often, which sucks because then you know what’s coming up since the guy in front of you is so close. It definitely wasn’t like this a few years ago so its gotten progressively more crowded, but they haven’t done anything about it yet. Also - they change things every year which is great too!
  • Best haunted house of all time. Well worth the drive from North Jersey. This place cant be beat, so good you gave to sign a waiver (seriously)
  • Drove 3.5 hrs to get to the prison , I was a little worried after reading some of the latest reviews but wow what a show starting from instant shuttle rides from the parking area to everything we experienced. Definitely prison themed, lots of special effects. And nice people including the scary actors. The lines were long but moved quickly, I didn’t see any large groups mostly 6-8 in each, lots of surprise scares and even more visuals.
  • I LOVED IT!!! It is scary enough to make you scream, give you chills, and give you many doubt's. It'll make you freak at least once or twice. If you are brave enough to wear the glow necklace defiantly do it. Even if you feel like there is a small possibility, just try to wear it. You could take it off anywhere anyway if you don't like that part of the evil walk through. I love the interaction with the horror. Being shoved into holes in the walls and down slides. Having ghouls right up in your face. Grabbing your limbs as you walk past. I enjoyed every moment and even wished it was longer afterwards. We did get a bite to eat in "The Yard" where you can pick up your pictures, go to the gift shop, and even get entertained by dancing zombies. It was awesome and amazing! Love, Love, Love It!!!
