The third largest museum in the country, Philadelphia Museum of Art holds a collection of more than 220,000 pieces, including masterpieces by Picasso, Dali, El Greco, Rubens, van Gogh, and Renoir. With an exterior familiar to most from the "Rocky" movies, the museum preserves the creative accomplishments of the entire world, containing over 200 galleries and spanning nearly 2,000 years of art history. The museum holds important artworks from Asia, notably a collection of Persian and Turkish carpets, as well as recreations of a Chinese palace hall, Japanese teahouse, and Indian temple. The European collection encompasses works from the Middle Ages to the present day, while the American galleries survey three centuries of painting, sculpture, and decorative arts. • This is not as vast or overwhelming as The Met in NYC. The $25 ticket is also good for the next day, so two days for one ticket. It is good for the nearby Rodin and the Perelman (not now open) so...

  • Visited on Friday. There are some free parking spots behind park (Azalea Garden) of the museum. They could be somewhat limited on weekend. I would recommend visiting the museum on weekdays if time permits. Friendly and accommodating staff. There is a decent collection of art work and historical pieces of variety. Good for a two-plus-hour visit.
  • The museum is free of admission on Fridays after 5 pm till close. This is the best time to visit with the spectacular sunset view from the west room!! The exhibitions incorporate their representing cultures into art which makes it unique. My family really enjoy this experience. There are plenty of off-street parking spaces in addition to a few paid parking lots. More entertainment including big wheel, Merry-go-round, music, booths on the open lawn in front of the museum for family with children.
  • I visited this place during my visit to Philly. It was a Sunday, so the entry was free. They suggest to donate, which I absolutely recommend. This is one of the famous art museum cum galleries in the US. They have enormous collection of wonderful artworks and artefacts. We spent 4 hours and hardly could finish everything. They have separate sections of European art, American/ indigenous, Hispanic, Indian/ Asian, contemporary, etc. if you don’t have much time, select beforehand what you would like to see. On top of their regular display, they often have various limited exhibitions and show. The building itself is very famous for the film Rocky. However, if you are an art lover, this place is yours. You can spend several days if you have interest. It’s a must visit place if you are around.
  • The artwork was spectacular I looked at just about every piece of art The collection was huge I stayed there for about an hour just taking pictures and viewing artwork if you're into art I will most definitely recommend that you go there now while they have their exhibition up. My favorite section was the section that had the medieval weapons and armor I even posted many pictures of what they had my favorite was the great sword it was cool
  • Excellent museum in PA. It is an hour drive from NJ. Good collection of art. Though it is not as big as the Met. The ticket remains valid for 2 days (including the first day of your visit). However, one day may be sufficient. Friendly staff and good cafeteria. All in all a good excursion for the entire family.
