  • Check the hours before you go. This is a wonderful history lesson with very friendly staff. Admission is charged. They do a lot of events like Scouts, but also corporate events. Watching and hearing the cannon going off is great. You can rent the facility overnight with a group and it's frequently booked so you need to plan in advance.
  • Great place for people of all ages. Events throughout the year keep the scenery changing. Staff is extremely knowledgeable and more than willing to answer any questions. Check out their Facebook page for their hours. I also suggest calling before you go of the weather is questionable. Great membership options as well.
  • The place looked awesome...from afar. We got there 20 minutes before closing, so I understand we wouldn't be able to see a whole lot, but the man staffing the office didn't even give us a smile, much less an option to see anything at all. He was very cold and uninterested in giving us any information outside of that closing was in 20 minutes. Very disappointing to visitors all the way from Connecticut. Maybe next time we visit with more time, I can offer a better review.
  • This is a great place to host a renaissance festival. Make sure to wear waterproof shoes. It's called "Mud Island" for a reason.
  • Nice place to visit for some history. Also, a great place to plane spot and take photos or arriving airplanes into Philadelphia International Airport.

Where to stay in Philadelphia

Most of Philadelphia's hotels cluster around the compact city center, ensuring quick and easy access to major tourist sights and activities. The only drawback to staying in this area is the lack of free parking, so if you're exploring by car, considering booking into a bed and breakfast in one of the city's residential blocks. Visitors planning on longer stays can also consider several apartment hotels, offering spacious furnished units with complimentary Wi-Fi, free bike rentals, and access to rooftop terraces.
