Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, Pennsylvania

4.8
#145 of 281 in Museums in Pennsylvania
The Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles houses dozens of automobiles, trucks, and motorcycles that were manufactured right here in Pennsylvania while the industry was still in its infancy. Prior to that time, the region produced multitudes of horse-drawn vehicles, of which many examples can be found at the Museum.

The Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles was established in 1965 by Paul and Erminie Hafer. Paul Hafer had a 57-year career of designing and building truck bodies at the Boyertown Auto Body Works, which was co-founded by his father B. Frank Hafer. He served for 21 years as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles. Erminie Hafer’s book, A Century of Vehicle Craftsmanship, is a thorough history on the transportation industry in Southeastern Pennsylvania and is for sale in the Museum gift shop.

  • I'm 82 and I loved it -- so did my 21/2 & 5 yr old grandsons. I was amazed at how elegant cars were back then in my father's & grandfather's day. Mechanical advances every 10 yrs was astonishing.  more »

  • What a fun time we had at the Boyertown Museum. The "unbelievable" variety of vehicles that the museum houses, ranges from cars, trucks, sleds, doctors' carriages, a Conestoga Wagon...AND...a 19th century mortician's hearse. The entire collection is in mint condition, even a "1930's" diner, which is complete with all of its original furnishings. A blacksmith demonstration took us back to times gone by. How lucky we were to have a tour of the museum, with a docent by the name of "Ken," who made our time there most enjoyable, because of his "friendly, unassuming country" demeanor, and his endless wealth of vehicle knowledge. "Thank You" to all of the workers at the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, for making our visit 'ever so' memorable. The vehicles that you have, are just one of your invaluable treasures. Your volunteers are priceless gems too!
  • A very focused museum on Pennsylvania regional automobile and truck manufacturing from Mack to American Bantam. They have an original Conestoga wagon, and quite a number of early electric vehicles and tiller steering cars. There are also some early bicycles and motorcycles. Interesting and well told story.
  • Really enjoyed stopping in here on a whim. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, and their collection of vehicles includes a lot of stuff you simply won't see anywhere else. Another interesting surprise is that they had saved a complete 1930s era dinner hat had been relocated to inside the museum.
  • Great historical cars and motorcycles. Very unique. They even have a real full size diner you can go in and check out. Definatwly an awesome place to visit. Easy to get in its only about 12 dollars. Cheaper admissions for members kids and seniors. Just don't touch the cars! Will definitely go back again soon. Five star rating
  • What a neat setup, I had no idea on how many rare cars they had. Had a fun afternoon with great people.
