  • This castle is steeped in local history from the scholarly owners to the sculptures created here. Definitely a must see when you are near Huntington Beach State Park.  more »
  • Located a Huntington State Park but take the time to see this place. Not a fancy place, just as they left it to the State. History of the location and Brookgreen Gardens (part of the rice plantations)...  more »
  • My hubby and I got here a half hour before the place closed. We paid our $2 per person admission and scurried through the castle. The courtyard is beyond beautiful. I could've just stood there all day...  more »

  • As a child, I remember our family reunions were held at the state park. I remember going into the, "Castle", as we called it, but never realized the importance of this special place. It is an amazing place to visit and follow the footsteps of some great history. Parents, if you take your children here, please explain to them the history part of this place. As it was never a place in my heart as a child, it has a special place now that I am older. Being a South Carolina native, things like this is important to me. It is part of our local history that I know you too, will enjoy.
  • Interesting place and well worth the $2. It doesn't take long to tour and has some pretty interesting parts. It'd be more interesting if they had some of the original furnishings, etc but it's not climate controlled so I can see why they don't.
  • Really interesting place, I've never been anywhere like it. Although it feels more like a fortress than an actual house, and it's completely empty except for a few plumbing items and a closet here and there. Did the audio tour, it was very good quality. I appreciated that it wove you in and out of the house, so you didn't have to be in the hot sun for long periods of time. Heads up, to pay for admission at the castle, you need cash. Otherwise you need to go to the Visitor Center/Gift Shop first to buy your tour. And you need to specify if you want audio. They were running guided tours in May, but I didn't want to wait an hour for the next one. And I preferred not being in a large group when wandering around. There is a $5 per person fee to get into the park itself. There are plenty of restrooms, though no soap or hand drying options are available. There was a hand sanitizer dispenser available.
  • The history of Atalaya Castle, the connection to Brookgreen Gardens, all go toward making this an outstanding place to visit. I was so awed by the interior of the house, tried to image it furnished and how it must have been, back in the day. Archer and Anna Huntington built a beautiful place to live and work. I highly recommend you take the time to walk through this historic home.
  • Great place to visit walk through without tour is faster..not spooky at all or scary..worth the cheap price to walk through😀
