L'Aventure, or Stephan Vineyards, is a California wine estate producing signature red wine blends utilizing what are traditionally Bordeaux and Rhône grape varietals. The winery is located southwest of Paso Robles, California, along the Pacific Coast in the Santa Lucia Mountain range.HistoryStephan Asseo settled in Paso Robles due to its similarities in terroir to the Rhône Valley, founding L'Aventure in 1998.Following a vision of "Bordeaux meets Rhône in Paso Robles", consistent acclaim and high scores by Robert M. Parker, Jr. have caused sales of L'Aventure wines to rise considerably, and the estate has been informally termed a "Grand Cru of Paso Robles".Asseo was selected as 2007 Winemaker of the Year of San Luis Obispo County. In 2007 he also appeared in the second series of Oz and James's Big Wine Adventure.ProductionThe vineyard area extends 127acre, cultivated with grape varieties of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah, 15% Petit Verdot and 15% Mourvèdre as well as portions of Grenache, Roussanne, Viognier and Grenache blanc.

  • Their old tasting room was... uh... modest... The new one is cave carved into the hill under the vineyards. How cool is that? It helps that the staff are fantastic, and the wine is k-iller. Seriously, I don't usually drop $80 on a bottle of wine but this is the exception. No harsh sales pitch, no merch, and a lovely time. Ample parking, because you MUST make a reservation. They're always busy, don't be that guy.
  • We've been wine club members for 15 years and always know we will have exceptional wines delivered every year. Stephen and Co do an outstanding job in putting up some of the finest estate wines in CA.
  • This vineyard is what got me into truly appreciating wine. France wine maker who takes an old world approach to making exceptional full bodied Rhone varietal wines! Their location in Paso provides a great get away into the hills, they are also in the process of giving a cave in the hill side which will provide a great setting to sample their selections. L'Aventure is a MUST visit if you are in Paso.
  • Outstanding wines and very knowledgeable staff. I had the pleasure to meet the winemaker, a true artist. Felicitations! I'm looking forward to our next trip when we can see the new tasting room.
  • David and Evan were amazing! David actually helped us out with the wine but evan helped us fihd a great food place that delivers to nearby wineries: Red Scooters. We were very pleased with the wine but also the hospitality. Thanks guys with a great memory and time--we will be back
