Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, Papaikou

Garden
Enjoy greenery, cascading waterfalls, and views of the ocean at Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden. The garden's fertile, volcanic soil benefits the growth of more than 2,000 tropical species, including an extraordinary collection of palm trees and bromeliads. The garden also functions as a preservation center for tropical plants that have been jeopardized by rain forest destruction. The trek is easy and leisurely, thanks to boardwalks with benches on most trails. Parking is free, and the garden provides umbrellas if it's raining. Because the garden is in a natural valley where temperatures might get quite hot, it's a good idea to bring water and insect repellent. • The garden blends beautifully in the landscape. Very much recommended for orchid lovers. Trail is also suitable for hot days.

  • Likely one of the most beautiful places I've ever had the pleasure of being. A tropical paradise and right up against some of the most beautiful views of the ocean I got to see on Hawaii. Worth every penny of $15 for this place to be reserved and loved by all who get to see it. I would easily return again and again. Because it's a garden there is a great diversity of plant life to see that one isn't going to see elsewhere along with of course the native varieties. I spent easily and hour and a half here maybe two (I wasn't paying any attention) just taking my time. It is a bit of a walk and the first bit down a wooden ramp is rather steep but I saw a gentleman in a wheelchair so there must be ways of accommodating for some disabilities and most of the rest of the pathways are easy to navigate with plenty of benches to rest and enjoy. Parrots and koi, tiki and beautiful falls as well. A total treat.
  • Best time on the island. Not touristy and very exciting flora. Note the mini pineapples, they're a bit hidden but cool
  • Amazing garden with unique flora. Very well maintained. Worth every penny. Tips: Take insect repellent, it's very important. You can also get it at visitor center. Umbrellas are provided at visitor center.
  • Such a variety of plants! Well taken care of and planed out. Very beautiful. Was not crowded when we came. Because of location near ocean and shade from tall trees it is cool even on a hot day. Good photo taking opportunities. It is like a tropical version of the Butchart Gardens. Easy to spend a few hours here.
  • This place is beautiful. I didn't care for the cages birds from the Amazon, but I can understand the desire to make it feel more tropical than it already is. Orchids everywhere! Definitely worth visiting.
