Meadery of the Rockies, Palisade

4.8
Top travel recommendation website, TripAdvisor, named Palisade in the Top 10 Wine Destinations in the U.S. in their Travelers’ Choice Awards 2012, and Meadery of the Rockies as a DON'T MISS stop.

As Colorado’s first and most beloved (or bee-loved!) meadery, Meadery of the Rockies makes an array of honey based wines, all starting with pure, raw Orange Blossom honey.

Owners Glenn and Natalie Foster have been involved in the Colorado wine industry for more than 16 years. Due to growing up and working in northern California’s wine country, Glenn is a second generation winemaker whose father, Reed Foster Sr., co-founded and operated Sonoma’s Ravenswood Winery for 30 years. This foundation, along with a leap of faith to take part in Colorado’s burgeoning wine business in the 1990s, led to a successful career in winemaking for Glenn. A passion for falconry inspired Glenn to name his company Talon Wine Brands.

Talon Wine Brands encompasses Meadery of the Rockies and sister wineries St. Kathryn Cellars and Talon Winery. Talon Wine Brands produces 40+ wines, employs 20 people in Palisade, and ships to 19 states.

  • Our first time trying mead wine. We both enjoyed the chocolate cherry honey wine. It's very sweet, so you only needed one glass maybe 2. We bought a bottle of wine we liked, a jar of chocolate honey spread, and cinnamon honey spread. Everything was really delicious! They had everything from lotions, lip balm, salsa, jams, t-shirts, wine, and so much more. It was hard not to want to buy everything. The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. They let us try a few wines before deciding on a bottle. This was a great stop for us and will definitely be back when we are in town!
  • 12 selections for tasting. All good. If you have never sampled mead (honey wine), then go there and sample every one of their products. You will find several that you will enjoy.
  • Love it here. Everyone is so knowledgeable.
  • I had never tried honey wines and had low expectations. They're on the sweeter side, most of them, but their drier ones are very good and refreshing. Nice find that stands out from the rest of the traditional wineries in Palisade.
  • Yummy mead, great servers and atmosphere.
