  • If you have any interest in history, this will not disappoint, The site was recently restored and it is incredible. Amazing to think all this history right in Oyster Bay, so cool.  more »
  • I think we were lucky having visited on a cold January day. Although it was too cold to see the grounds, there weren't too many visitors and our tour guide waxed enthusiastic. We weren't rushed at all...  more »
  • We visited this past year with friends from Chicago. It was their first visit. The house tour is amazing, you must reserve your spot ahead of your visit. The last time I was here was 60 years ago, age...  more »

  • History is alive and well at Sagamore Hill and it is well worth the visit. There is so much to see and do here that I would not suggest trying to squeeze in everything in an hour. First and foremost , if you want to see the inside of Roosevelt's home, you must get tickets ahead of time or get to Sagamore hill when it opens as there are a limited number of tickets for each session and they sell out quickly. It is important to note that 80% of the house is original, however, you can not take pictures inside the actual house. If you do not get tickets into the actual house, there are still plenty of other things to do on the site. There are several wonderful trails, some that lead to water as well as a museum and a few other structures that you can explore. For the Junior Rangers in the group there are several different booklets to complete. One booklet will earn them a badge, however completing three or more will also earn them a patch. There are plenty of restroom facilities on the site, however there is limited options for buying food. Tickets into the house come with a fee but the actual site is free. I did not expect to enjoy this location as much as we did. As avid NPS visitors, we try to see as many spots as possible. To be able to say you rocked in chairs on Roosevelt's porch is definitely something that we will treasure forever.
  • This is a beautiful property to walk around. The house is beautiful, but somewhat difficult to get a reservation for a tour. The museum is informative. After the museum, make sure you hike the trail behind the museum for a great view of the harbour from their private beach.
  • Truly captures the personality of Theodore Roosevelt. Feels like he will burst through the doors any minute and greet you on the front porch. Try to book a tour of the home in advance though. The Junior Ranger program here is good and helps guide kids through the museum exhibits. They also have a Junior Ranger program for nature and wildlife at sagamore hill. Complete both booklets and the kids get a very cool patch in addition to the badge! Check with the visitor center for the booklet when you arrive before you head down to the museum or go on the tour of the home.
  • Wonderful location and beautifully restored Teddy Roosevelt's year- round home. The Docent was knowledgeable and loved history, especially about the Roosevelts. It's also a great place to go for hikes as the property is extensive and has lots of trees. They run nature walks. We went during the week for the last tour before closing. It was a small group of 6 people and even so, the narrow spaces were causing us to shift around each other all the time. This is not a mansion as you would imagine a mansion to be, so don't think it's anything like Newport scale. My only complaint is that they do not allow you to lean in over the ropes in front of each room or it triggers an alarm. This is ridiculously confining because as a result you can't see everything in the room. On top of that you have to move away quickly so others can see as well. I was disappointed because I like to take in some details as part of the charm of seeing a historical home like this. I can't imagine what it's like at peak times.
  • History coming alive. Interesting, original artifacts, great guides. Beautiful setting. The summer White House. Teddy Roosevelt..
