The Lost City Museum, formerly known as the Boulder Dam Park Museum, was built by the CCC conservation corps in 1935 and was operated by the National Park Service to exhibit artifacts from the Pueblo Grande de Nevada archaeological sites. The museum is located in Overton, Nevada and is one of seven managed by the Nevada Division of Museums and History, an agency of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. The Lost City Museum shares its location with an actual prehistoric site of the Puebloan Indians. In 1981 an extension of the museum was built incorporating some ruins in order to protect them and share them with the public. The museum has displays depicting the excavations of the sites, incredible artifacts unearthed during the project, pictures of the historical excavations, an excavated pithouse and reconstructions of the Puebloan houses. Pottery, shells, jewelry and many other examples that showcase the history of the early inhabitants are on display at this unique museum. The museum offers a reconstructed Puebloan house-site that is open to visitors.HistoryThe museum was established as a place to house and show the artifacts from Pueblo Grande de Nevada which was going to be partially covered by the waters of Lake Mead as a result of building the Hoover Dam.To visit Lost City Museum on your holiday in Overton, and find out what else Overton has to offer, use our Overton vacation trip planner.

Did you know that the Anasazi were in Nevada as well as Arizona and New Mexico? Most aren't aware of that as they pass the signs for the museum along Interstate 15. Only about an hour north of Las Vegas, the Lost City Museum is a premiere Anasazi museum in an unexpected setting for those thinking New Mexico-Arizona as the location. It's also conveniently close to Lake Meade Recreation Area, and the Valley of Fire State Park, a beautiful red-sandstone area reminiscent of Southern Utah and the Sedona region of Arizona.
This is a hidden gem! Bring the family for learning and a picnic. There are shaded kennels free of charge for the family pet while you explore the ancient history of this amazing area. The staff love to answer questions. The gift shop stocks certified Native American Crafts. On the way to Lake Mead and Valley of Fire Parks.
Equivalent to a national park service (NPS) visitor center. Lots of info on the pueblos. Admission fee.
Enjoyed all the history.
