Gatorland, Orlando

4.4
#1 of 60 in Tours in Orlando
A reptilian wonderland, Gatorland is a theme park and wildlife preserve founded in 1949. Spanning over 45 hectares (110 acres) and claiming status as the "alligator capital of the world," the park houses thousands of gators and crocodiles, many of them bought from trappers who usually catch these creatures for their meat and skin. Used as one of the settings for a 1984 movie about adventurer Indiana Jones, the park features a large breeding marsh with a wooden boardwalk and a three-story observation tower, allowing you to observe reptile shows from a safe distance. To learn how to wrangle crocodiles like a pro, join the park's "trainer for a day" program. • I have visited Orlando many times, but always gave Gatorland a miss - it just didn’t appeal to me, I thought it was a bit old fashioned... it is & that is definitely part of its charm! We had a fantas...  more »
  • Have visited about once a year for ten years. Always good for a couple of hours but some of the events are very dated. Train ride good value for money.well stocked gift shop.  more »
  • Went to Gatorland for the first time. Took 16 year old grandson. Gatorland was better than we expected. Lots of gators all sizes. Grandson fed gators, got up close when feeding them and "wrestled" one...  more »

  • Gatorland is run very well. I loved it and my family had a great time. The grunt package is a good deal. The staff are all friendly helpful and the show performers were funny and enthusiastic. Make good use of the quick reference show sheet they give you with your park map and be at each event you choose to attend 10 minutes prior to get seating or standing room. You will not be disappointed here.
  • Very decent attraction that is well priced and entertaining for the whole family. The events or shows that they put on are very hilarious and a good bit of fun and excitement for all ages. The part is spread out and is a good bit of walking. We have fun looking at, not only the gators, but the other bits of wild life they have. A raccoon and cougars, etc. The staff is very friendly and are very informative on gators and various wildlife in Florida. We have been here twice now and each time was very pleasant. The reason it is four stars and not five is due to the fact that food/drink is a bit overpriced for me and that dampens the otherwise amazing park.
  • I was disappointed in the layout of the park, difficult to follow the map. The kids splash pad was fun and nice to have changing stalls available or for $5 you can blow yourself dry! I feel they should have more seating for parents. We didn't know about the splash pad so it was nice to be able to buy a swimsuit for my granddaughter at the gift shop. It was VERY hot and hard to find a cool spot in the park. Train was $2 per person extra and riding on the swamp buggy was a lot more so we didn't do that. We did the "hold the baby gator" photo and the staff was very helpful in trying to get my granddaughter over her fear. As with most parks food and drink was a little pricey and the slushy machine wasn't working so we had a slightly cool Gatorade. We couldn't see the 5:00 gator jumping show due to others crowding the window but we got pics elsewhere in the park. Overall we enjoyed our visit, stayed about 3 hours and was exhausted from the heat. Being Floridians we will wait for cooler weather to return!
  • I don’t know if I would pay the full admission price to go here, but they did offer a lot more than I expected. I paid the 1/2 odd admission and felt it was worth it, but you do have to pay for everything separately when you get inside. The train ride is $2 per person, but you can ride as many times as you like. There is a very large splash pad, and it’s one of the nicest ones in the area. There is a large decked walkway with lots of swamp around you. There is zip lining over alligators as well as a small playground. The playground is right next to the splash pad and it’s “fenced” but kids could easily go off in another direction. Their show is crazy watching guys feed alligators out of their hands, lots could go wrong there. You can also pay to have your photo taken with a gator up close or a large snake around your neck. You can also see an albino alligator. We did the whole park in about 3.5 hours, but kids (3 and 5) weren’t ready to leave yet. Living in Florida there are a lot cheaper and easier ways to see alligators up close, but it was still fun to go once.
  • So cool! There are gators everywhere! You can get so close to them too! They have a splash pad for the kids and a petting zoo too! The shows are hilarious and very interactive. It is incredible to see the alligators jump out of the water and to see the guys wrestle the gators. There are buzzards and herons flying all over too. You can get pictures with snakes and baby gators, plus you can feed them yourself. They sell gator nuggets too that are so good, but way overpriced. If you are in the area, this is a place you have to go!
