  • This historic site is free to visit. The pictures, displays and memorabilia tell the story of the tragedy at the Winter Quarters and their long trek to Salt Lake. It is their history laid out in visuals that are very moving. Docents are eager and willing to walk you through the exhibits and answer your questions. Across the street is a cemetery where 359 of the Mormon pioneers lie buried. Different displays and events are scheduled here each year. My favorite is the gingerbread event where children display their work focused on a specific theme. I have posted several photos of their work on Google Maps. Nice place to visit and it's free of charge.
  • I just loved the gingerbread house display! They were so creative and fun! Everyone was so nice and friendly! There was a scavenger hunt for the children and upon completion they received a gift! There are videos and you can take pictures. There is childrens dress up and just so much to see! So much fun and it's free of charge!
  • Started with a 15 minute video to explain some of the history and first hand experience. Then was given a guided tour by two members of the church through the different exhibits. They explained each section and we're open to taking questions. Overall a very enjoyable experience
  • Loved seeing actual artifacts and life size displays. Really helps to get a sense of what life was like during the time period. Makes history come alive!
  • Hands on learning experience about the Pioneers who trekked across the Plains on foot, with a wagon or pushing a handcart.. Oh the sacrifices they made so we can live the way we do. We are blessed because of them.

Where to stay in Omaha

Not surprisingly for a city of its size, Omaha has a diverse range of accommodation options to suit a variety of tastes and budgets. A hotel close to downtown is usually more expensive, but enables guests to experience the best of Omaha's nightlife, shopping, and dining on foot. An apartment rental in one of the city's vibrant residential neighborhoods might be a good choice if you are planning a longer stay in the city. You'll find national chain hotels and motels in many of Omaha's suburbs.
