  • Perhaps one of my most favorite and cherished mountain visitor centers, Hurricane Ridge is a feast for the eyes and an equalizer for the senses. It has a way about it that both humbles and inspires — humbled by the sheer size and majesty of the Hurricane Ridge, but inspired by its beauty to create, to savor our world, and to protect this pale blue dot that we inhabit. The visitor’s center itself has all the basic amenities — gift shop, snacks, restrooms, and plenty of tourists. Do yourself a huge favor and get off the pavement to the more beaten paths and trails and explore this wondrous gem in the Pacific Northwest.
  • One of the most spectacular locations in the United States. An amazing confluence of mountain, forest, and coastal views in one spot. The weather can be treacherous--but if you catch it in a sunny day, there are few destinations more beautiful. Great views of the Olympic Range; Puget Sound; Strait of Juan de Fuca; Victoria Island; and even Victoria, British Columbia. Highly recommend visiting here if you are in the Seattle area and want to take an excursion.
  • Glorious views, close encounter with wildlife, ranger led walks and easy access to trails. During the winter months, super fun place to play in the snow. Be prepared to be there early, parking is extremely limited.
  • An amazing place to visit, especially on clear days! Stunning views, nice paved trails, and a well equipped visitor center make this an excellent choice for any weekend adventure. Hiking and camping opportunities are nearly endless. Check the webcams on the National Park Service website ahead of time in the winter to check conditions at the top.
  • Amazing sweeping views. Visitor center is nice and has all the necessary accoutrements.

Where to stay in Olympic National Park

Many visitors to Olympic National Park choose to pitch a tent at one of 16 campgrounds, many of which stay open throughout the year. The park also offers a mix of lodge rooms, motel rooms, and cabins thanks to two lodges and two resorts. On the Pacific Coast, the Kalaloch Lodge stands as the most isolated of these. If you prefer to rest your head outside the park, consider staying in Port Townsend. This artsy waterside community northeast of the park offers plenty of inns and bed and breakfasts, but they fill up quickly in summer, so reserve ahead if possible. Port Angeles sits a bit closer to the park and offers more functional accommodations in the form of motels and hotels, though you'll also find waterfront inns and cottages in the area. Communities on the park's western side offer a rustic vibe, but they also take more time to get to if you're coming from Seattle.
