  • I have never understood why the Mima Mounds are a tourist thing, but if you are into history, I can see the appeal. But, I have lived here my whole life.  more »

  • This mysterious feature of our region is always an interesting, if a little subdued adventure for us. The diversity in the prairie life that exists in this environment presents itself in an unique cross-section which permits us a view into the workings of nature. I am appreciative of the whole experience, from the placement of picnic tables, seemingly hidden like Easter eggs, atop some of the mounds, to the observation platforms stations which offer impressive panoramic views of the landscape. I am also appreciative of the efforts to maintain such a feature, which I estimate to be no small challenge given the available funding with which to do so. I've rated this with 4 stars in light of the clear need to improve access to the park. The paved pathways which allow those with mobility impairments to experience the park are degrading, even as it is evident that they are dutifully maintained. Additionally, the entire experience is, as far as I've seen, self-guided. The signage is very explicit, but a guided tour can help to make the experience more dynamic, especially for those whose attention for sustained reading is difficult to maintain, or for others who may seek a deeper understanding of the environment.
  • My husband and so didn’t want to pay the discovery pass fee. We decided just to take a drive through the park and i saw that is was very well kept. A great place to take a day trip with. scenic drive and check out some beautiful landscape.
  • A great, unusual place to visit. There's still no known explanation of how these mounds were formed. If you go, make sure you wear sunscreen, there is nearly zero shade here and the trails are 2 miles long. Also check out Mima Falls which is nearby, it's a nice hike to a small waterfall.
  • So. There are also vast mounds..of the exact same nature on old 99 LHS going to Tenino. They should also be preserved. My Geology teacher Mr Woodland from Centralia College said they were glacial run off. They are full of gravel iced dirt like the entire region. These are near Rochester. I live in Tumwater on sand..all sand and Bush mountain at my back. 40' well.
  • Very clean, no litter on or beside the trail. Next time we will come earlier in the year to see the wild flowers in bloom. There were the sounds o f freedom coming from the nearby gun range, but they didn't bother us at all.
