  • Very neat trip in an underground cave. Make sure you bring a flashlight as it is pitch black and the ground is pretty uneven. It's a short little hike but pretty cool.
  • We stumbled across the Subway Cave while enroute from Lassen to Burney and decided it was worth a stop based on what we saw from Google Maps. I'm SO glad we did because it was a gem and made for a gre...  more »

  • Awesome lava tubes! Bring a flashlight. The entrance is close to the parking lot... Go through then turn around and go back (the exit is a little bit of a hike back to the car and not well marked). You can make it a quick 15 minute visit or spend an hour exploring the other side.
  • Fantastic example of what lava can do! The tube has signs inside (look for them with your flashlight) that explain the character of each area as you pass through. Read the signs (for all age groups) to learn interesting facts. Each person should have their own well charged flashlight or lantern. Next time I'll take my headlamp too! Go and enjoy!
  • Take good shoes & flashlights. Floor is naturally rough. Art work on walls are also an interesting aaide. Trail to & from a little ragged, be careful. Amazing experience going through ancient lava tubes. Not possible without your own flashlights. These are rentable at nearby Old Station. Good, protective shoes advised, heavily!!!
  • While this doesn't have the breathtaking views as other parts of Lassen National Park, this should on your list of things to see while at the park. How many times have you been able to walk through a lava tube (lava no longer included...phew)!
  • Awesome cave. Must see if you appreciate geology.
