#4 of 14 in Museums in Oklahoma City
Housing the world's largest collection of glass sculptures by artist Dale Chihuly, Oklahoma City Museum of Art brings art to life in the city's renowned downtown arts district. Although it covers a period of nearly 500 years, the museum's collection is especially strong in European and American art of the 19th and 20th centuries. Spread across three floors, the permanent exhibit space displays works by Alexander Calder, Henry Moore, Georgia O'Keefe, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Charles Wilson Peale, and Gustave Courbet. The museum also houses a theater that screens international, independent, and classic films. Finish your visit with a meal at the museum's full-service restaurant, which offers a menu inspired by French cuisine. • This is such a great museum. I love the standing exhibits, and I've gotten to attend a few of the special exhibits, too. One of my favorites was the clothing of film stars. Fascinating.
  • Residents and visitors in Oklahoma City should not fail to go to this amazing cultural jewel. Collection includes works from the masters to the modern, and a huge selection of Dale Chihuli's glass works. The Museum Cafe is elegant and delicious.
  • This is a pretty nice art museum. Don't expect to find anything by Leonardo da Vinci or Michelangelo, but it still has some good pieces that I think most people would enjoy. It's a great way to spend a pleasant afternoon browsing through the various displays and Exhibits.
  • They have some great exhibits come in, but Dale Chihuly's work looks like something your tacky grandma would put on her coffee table. I think the most insulting thing is that he says his art takes nature and makes it more beautiful. Nature is beautiful because it's complex, turning it into glass, in my opinion, makes it less attractive. The cafe here is pretty good also.
  • Most of the pieces and exhibits have good context and are visually well presented. An enjoyable place to visit on a Sunday afternoon.
