State Park
Bike, hike, or whitewater raft along the Youghiogheny River Gorge at Ohiopyle State Park. This park, which opened in 1965, features 23 km (14 mi) of the Youghiogheny River and boasts some of the best rafting in the eastern United States. Different parts of the park offer level I and II rapids, while another section affords the more difficult level III and IV rapids. Take in stunning views of the park's many waterfalls, including the 6.1 m (20 ft) Ohiopyle Falls, as you raft. Another favorite is the park's natural Meadow Run Waterslides, which have been carved out by nature and function like a waterpark waterslide in a natural setting, only a bit rougher. You can also canoe, kayak, horseback ride, and even cross-country ski through this 19,052 hectare (7,710 acre) park with over 160 km (100 mi) of trails. • This edited review shows just how important the people around you at a campground are. Last year, I reviewed Ohiopyle State Park and gave it 5/5 stars saying the other campers made the park. We're just back from another visit and had a decidedly different experience. This year, our neighbors were loud, disrespectful, and up until all hours of the night. It seemed everybody there were college groups looking for a party, which was inconsistent with our plans for a family camping trip. It didn't help that the rangers were nowhere to be found and the rules were not enforced at all (I presume alcohol was fueling the fun and quiet hours were blatantly disregarded). It's still a great park, but I hope this experience was an anomaly and not the expectation.
  • My boyfriend and I love to come here on the weekends. Views are absolutely beautiful and the fishing is fantastic. Plenty of great hiking trails and in the summer it is great for wading and swimming. The only negative is that it can get pretty crowded during peak season.
  • My wife and I love this place,we visit 2-3 times a year.Numerous hiking trails, waterfalls, camping, allegheny passage bike trail runs right through it. Kayaking and rafting on the youghiogheny river.Very close to both falling water and kentuck knob frank lloyd wright homes
  • This is a really beautiful park. We had a quick visit here and didn't get to see or do as much as we would have liked. I'd love to come back another time.
  • I've come to Ohiopyle on several different occasions, and I've loved it every time. The trails are great, the scenery is wonderful, and there are places to rent canoes and bikes. It's a great place to go for day trips.
