Bike, hike, or whitewater raft along the Youghiogheny River Gorge at Ohiopyle State Park. This park, which opened in 1965, features 23 km (14 mi) of the Youghiogheny River and boasts some of the best rafting in the eastern United States. Different parts of the park offer level I and II rapids, while another section affords the more difficult level III and IV rapids. Take in stunning views of the park's many waterfalls, including the 6.1 m (20 ft) Ohiopyle Falls, as you raft. Another favorite is the park's natural Meadow Run Waterslides, which have been carved out by nature and function like a waterpark waterslide in a natural setting, only a bit rougher. You can also canoe, kayak, horseback ride, and even cross-country ski through this 19,052 hectare (7,710 acre) park with over 160 km (100 mi) of trails. • Superb place to visit. Easy access to water if you want. Lots of trails to hike. Try to visit mid-week.
  • We were a large group of hikers and had three yurts and one cabin. We thought the yurt had an oven but it didn't -- just a microwave but were able to heat up our pot-luck dinner. The yurt itself was f...  read more »
  • This edited review shows just how important the people around you at a campground are. Last year, I reviewed Ohiopyle State Park and gave it 5/5 stars saying the other campers made the park. We're just back from another visit and had a decidedly different experience. This year, our neighbors were loud, disrespectful, and up until all hours of the night. It seemed everybody there were college groups looking for a party, which was inconsistent with our plans for a family camping trip. It didn't help that the rangers were nowhere to be found and the rules were not enforced at all (I presume alcohol was fueling the fun and quiet hours were blatantly disregarded). It's still a great park, but I hope this experience was an anomaly and not the expectation.
  • Went here for July 4th weekend and ha a blast. Everyone working with the rental groups were very nice and helpful in giving directions. We went down the lower river on rafts and had a blast. Went with one of the groups but did not take a guide in our raft and was very happy to find that it was doable even though only 2 of us had ever been rafting before.
  • Whitewater rafting, biking, hiking, camping... Ohiopyle has it all! Fall is the most beautiful time of year to visit in my opinion, but the water is warmer in the summer if you want to raft. Dogs are welcome on the trails. Lots of fun and quaint things to do!
  • Nice park with some good hikes, plentiful camping options and a convenient location just outside of Pittsburgh. And Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water house is worth a visit too.
  • Really well kept up Park. Love the viewing areas of the waterfall and the access to rocks on the river. Really nice museum/visitor center as well. Overall a great place to explore while you're visiting. Stroller friendly, which is awesome!
