East Harbor State Park is located on the shores of Lake Erie. This park includes a beach area, campground, marina, and wetland wildlife preserve areas.TrailsEast Harbor's 7mi trail system leads through the many different habitats within the park. The Middle Harbor Trail skirts the southern edge of the Middle Harbor game sanctuary and includes a stop at a bird observation blind. The short Blackberry Trail near the camp check-in station invites campers to enjoy a pleasant evening stroll. Other foot trails near the swimming beach offer the opportunity to observe the flora and fauna of a beach community.WildlifeEast Harbor lies on the fringe of Ohio's prairie marsh zone • These wetlands are remnants of the Great Black Swamp which once covered an area 120mi long and 30 to 40mi wide • After a period of intense lumbering and draining in the late 19th century, the swamp was nearly destroyed • Only ten percent of Ohio's original wetlands now remain • These wetlands produce more wildlife than any other type of habitat in Ohio • Reptiles and amphibians are numerous including the green frog, American toad, water snake, fox snake and painted turtle • Large numbers of ducks, geese, gulls, terns and other migratory waterfowl delight birdwatchers • Middle Harbor is a game sanctuary where black-crowned night herons, egrets, great blue herons and other shorebirds find refuge • Furbearers in the park include muskrat and red fox • Hundreds of migrating songbirds rest here before winging north across the lake.

  • We have stayed numerous times and every experience is better than the previous. The camping hosts are incredible! The sites are the best we've experienced, clean, spacious established shade trees. The...  read more »
  • One of the nicest state park camp grounds I have been to large lots, and very clean. Easy trails, many deer and birds. Enjoyed talking to the deer dude who feeds the deer every morning.
  • We had a great weekend stay at the campground, which is huge! Sites were clean and generally spacious, although ours had a tree which prevented us putting out our awning. Bathrooms and showers were ni...  read more »
  • Just returned home today from our first trip to East Harbor and we had a great time, everyone from the staff to other campers were incredibly friendly and helpful. Enjoyed long walks with our dog and fishing off the break wall and the sunshine and the full moon. Great rates for Sunday through Thursday with our Golden Buckeye card. The facilities were impeccable, bathrooms spotless and the showers were awesome! We are definitely coming back again and again this summer and fall. I totally recommend this park for anyone!!
  • Best beach in Ohio. The beach is long and has fine sand. The slope is very gentle not steep at all. One can walk quite far in water. There are stone barriers to suppress the waves. Water remains calm and nice all day. Shower facility is just as it should be. There are no closed shower rooms. There are trees along the beach if one doesn't want to be in bare sun. I find it the best in Ohio and i believe lake water is much better than sea to be in. Doesnt hurt if some of it gets in eye or swallowed accidentally
  • The BEST state park! The campground is great, safe and a nice place to stay. The showers are very clean and hot, the camper hosts are helpful as well as all the employees. The beach is great and the water is clean. FYI if you take a right away from the beach and go to the end of the parking lot, follow the long trail (about 10mins) and you will reach a great beach! It's a hidden gem if you ask me. A decent amount of people are out there and it is great! Will camp here every year and we love it!
  • I have only been to the swim area at this park, but the drive in is lovely. We went twice, once at high tide, once at low. It was a more pleasant experience with our toddler at low because there's a larger stretch of clean sand to play in. The whole area is very shallow and very child-friendly. We were disappointed the next morning at high tide with all the debris that was washed up, including copious amount of animal (dog?) poop.
  • Yes there is a beach East Harbor State Park is by far the best campground area in this area and has the nicest beach, it is also a beautiful state park! The beach is having some erosion problems that is why it is much smaller than is use to be. But the ''smaller'' part is not very big and if you walk 20 more feet down the beach gets huge. Its a very long beach and is the destination beach for everyone. Yes at times in the summer this place is packed with tourist swimming and locals swimming, but is by far the best public beach around! If you are in the area camp there as well!! You will not be disappointed! The campground is amazing, nice, and huge! Christmas in July and Halloween weekends in October are the best we go every year! I wish they had seasonal sites, that would be awesome! The bathrooms/shower houses are great and kept very very clean!
