East Harbor State Park is located on the shores of Lake Erie. This park includes a beach area, campground, marina, and wetland wildlife preserve areas.TrailsEast Harbor's 7mi trail system leads through the many different habitats within the park. The Middle Harbor Trail skirts the southern edge of the Middle Harbor game sanctuary and includes a stop at a bird observation blind. The short Blackberry Trail near the camp check-in station invites campers to enjoy a pleasant evening stroll. Other foot trails near the swimming beach offer the opportunity to observe the flora and fauna of a beach community.WildlifeEast Harbor lies on the fringe of Ohio's prairie marsh zone • These wetlands are remnants of the Great Black Swamp which once covered an area 120mi long and 30 to 40mi wide • After a period of intense lumbering and draining in the late 19th century, the swamp was nearly destroyed • Only ten percent of Ohio's original wetlands now remain • These wetlands produce more wildlife than any other type of habitat in Ohio • Reptiles and amphibians are numerous including the green frog, American toad, water snake, fox snake and painted turtle • Large numbers of ducks, geese, gulls, terns and other migratory waterfowl delight birdwatchers • Middle Harbor is a game sanctuary where black-crowned night herons, egrets, great blue herons and other shorebirds find refuge • Furbearers in the park include muskrat and red fox • Hundreds of migrating songbirds rest here before winging north across the lake.

  • This is a nice park right on the water with a beach. The views are very nice, and there are plenty of birds.  more »

  • I went here recently to go to the beach. The beach is clean, with close by bathrooms/changing rooms and external showers to rinse off. The beach itself is narrow along the short, yet stretches long. T...  more »

  • I LOVE East Harbor! There are always so many things to do for everyone from friends to whole families and kids to adults. My family goes there on day trips every summer to walk through the trails and see tons of nature (and even deer!) and sit on the beach. I know they have many more things to do but we like it because it's somewhere we can go and have fun without really having to plan or pack anything. I would highly recommend a visit!
  • Great place to camp, but it can be busy so I would make a reservation. Bathrooms are nice and clean! Also there's a beach right down the road and there's a ton of places to fish. We usually rent bikes and ride around.
  • Excellent beach with well marked areas for swimming and relaxing. Lifeguards are not always out but on high traffic days they are usually there. Great place for the family.
  • This is our favorite place to camp and we go nearly every summer. It's close to a lot of things to do but the park itself is just awesome and right on the lake
  • East Harbor State Park is a gem within the state of Ohio! The beach is beautiful, especially at the time of sunrise and sunset. There are small shells to be found if you look and if you enjoy walking in the water, you'll love it here because you can walk out several hundred feet to the breakers and the water (most times of the year) only comes up to your chest (if you're at least 4 feet tall). There are small waves, so you can enjoy the lovely sound of the water, but the waves aren't so big that they take out sand castles on the beach, so you see many being worked on by both adults and children. Bathrooms are well done for an outdoor location. Doors on the bathroom stalls, flush toilets and running water (sinks). Outside the bathrooms are spigots to wash off your feet or rinse off completely (high spigots and low spigots). You'll find picnic tables along the beach area (above the sandy area), so families bring lunch and stay the day. Seagulls are on the beach when it's not so busy (try September!). We love it here and have made several day trips to relax and enjoy some family time. You reach the beach by entering the East Harbor State Park (campground). The campground is beautiful as well, but that review is for another time!
