State Park Nature / Park
East Harbor State Park is located on the shores of Lake Erie. This park includes a beach area, campground, marina, and wetland wildlife preserve areas.TrailsEast Harbor's 7mi trail system leads through the many different habitats within the park. The Middle Harbor Trail skirts the southern edge of the Middle Harbor game sanctuary and includes a stop at a bird observation blind. The short Blackberry Trail near the camp check-in station invites campers to enjoy a pleasant evening stroll. Other foot trails near the swimming beach offer the opportunity to observe the flora and fauna of a beach community.WildlifeEast Harbor lies on the fringe of Ohio's prairie marsh zone • These wetlands are remnants of the Great Black Swamp which once covered an area 120mi long and 30 to 40mi wide • After a period of intense lumbering and draining in the late 19th century, the swamp was nearly destroyed • Only ten percent of Ohio's original wetlands now remain • These wetlands produce more wildlife than any other type of habitat in Ohio • Reptiles and amphibians are numerous including the green frog, American toad, water snake, fox snake and painted turtle • Large numbers of ducks, geese, gulls, terns and other migratory waterfowl delight birdwatchers • Middle Harbor is a game sanctuary where black-crowned night herons, egrets, great blue herons and other shorebirds find refuge • Furbearers in the park include muskrat and red fox • Hundreds of migrating songbirds rest here before winging north across the lake.

  • It is a great place to go fishing and you can go tubing in the bay. It is a great place to go camping with the family. The biking lanes all over east harbor. And there is a basketball court. This is a definite place to go camping over the summer. Also there is a big lake where you can swim and play in.
  • Beautiful park! Unfortunately they're having maintenance/cleaning issues(informed by staff). Bathrooms, shower house and the yurt we stayed in were not clean compared to the many other Ohio State parks we've stayed at. They did come and clean our yurt after we had to ask. Hoping it's only temporary!
  • This park is wonderful. We are planning to go back. Very clean. Nice camping spots. Kid friendly.
  • Bathrooms were so-so, but otherwise great. Mostly flat and we'll-drained where we were, in loop C. If you like trees at your campsite, you'll need to do some research beforehand as most of the trees are small. Nice and breezy on the 4th for July though!
  • This park is certainly a lot smaller than most of Ohio parks but it's also considerably cleaner and more up to date too. The campground is excellent and the view from the beach area is great. Staff treated everyone like family.
