Damon Point, Ocean Shores

Damon Point in Grays Harbor County, Washington is a former Washington State Park. The park consisted of 61acres at the southeastern tip of Ocean Shores Peninsula on a 1mi by 0.5mi piece of land jutting out into Grays Harbor. Today, the Washington Department of Natural Resources controls the land, and has been restoring it as bird habitat, especially for the threatened streaked horned lark, but also for other birds, including the snowy plover.
For travelers who use our international travel planner, Ocean Shores holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Damon Point and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • When we researched "things to do in Ocean Shores" we never considered beach-combing. Damon Point was a fun, new experience for us. It was a great place to take a long walk (about three hours), especia...  more »
  • This beach is perfect for walking approx 2 miles and tons of 'treasures' our granddaughters had a ball. LOTS of agates and shells and sheltered so NO big waves.  more »
  • We have been to Ocean Shores many times in our lives and have not been to Damon Point. It was very beautiful, not too crowded and very clean.  more »

  • It's a wonderful hike around this park. There are magnificent giant trees and logs that have washed up onto the beach. When we were there we saw dozens of pelicans.
  • The staff at the Econo Lodge, in Hoquiam, are locals and they recommended this beach. I got their late, almost an hour before the afternoon high tide, and walked to the point. I really enjoyed myself. No cars or horses are on this beach! Only dogs and one cat on a leach were spotted. Most of the people stick around the entrance area, but if you are up to the long walk to the point, you will find peace and quiet. Less people venture that far. This park has a nice selection of rocks and shells for the avid beach comber. I’m sure this is a great place to go during low tide. My best beach combing spot for that day was actually close to the point, but on the bay side, where the waves are gentler. This is a nice place and the parking lot is across the road from the entrance. There’s 2 portapotties near the entrance, too. The RV park is right next to the entrance to the park and is a good landmark. No matter where you are at, always keep an eye on the ocean, especially when close to the edge. The waves are sneaky and will catch the unaware.
  • Locals convinced fat man to walk 4 miles out to the Point as that's where the "best agates" can be found( I think the agates are right there where you enter the area and convincing tourist to walk to the point gives them the opportunity to get the best agates for themselves as it is a few hours roundtrip). I was looking for whale boats when I layed down exhausted after reaching the point. Making sure no harpooned me by accident. Thank God it wasn't walrus mating season because I wasn't getting away. This is a great hike actually!!! Make sure to ask the locals where to find gems and when the best times are for hiking that day. They will gladly show you what they found that day and instruct you on how and what to look for. I'm not sure If you can get stranded out there but you should have seen me running before the sunset faded and high tide set. I was rather proud I made it out and back. Wear good shoes for in the sand, sunscreen, snacks, cell phone, CAMERA and plenty of water. Share pictures of your gems and post to maps. Visit the Interpative Center located a quarter mile up the road, a great place staffed by volunteers who will offer guidance and entertain you make sure to donate a little something and enjoy.
  • Wonderful place to walk and relax. Great place to go agate hunting. Be careful if your on the end of the point when the tide comes up. Pay attention to your surroundings.
  • Beautiful place!!! Gorgeous beach and so crowded most days but well worth it.
