Silver Oak Cellars, Oakville
(4.4/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Silver Oak Cellars is a family-owned, California winery dedicated to producing only Cabernet Sauvignon. Silver Oak was established in 1972 by Ray Duncan and Justin Meyer. It is currently operated by Ray's sons David Duncan, who serves as the President and CEO, and his brother, Tim Duncan, who serves as Executive Vice President. Silver Oak has two wineries; one in Oakville in the Napa Valley and one in Geyserville in the Alexander Valley. The Duncan Family also established Twomey Cellars in 1999, named after Ray Duncan’s mother, where they produce Pinot noir, Merlot and Sauvignon blanc. Twomey has wineries in Calistoga and Healdsburg. In 2007, the ColoradoBiz cited Silver Oak as one of a dozen California wineries which "have reached cult status" for its Cabernet Sauvignon production and occupies an "important niche in California's wine industry."HistorySilver Oak was the vision of Justin Meyer. Entrepreneur and oil tycoon, Ray Duncan had purchased Franciscan Vineyards and approached Justin Meyer, whom he’d met through mutual friends, and asked him to plant and manage his vineyards and winery. Then working at Christian Brothers, Justin agreed, and started Silver Oak on the side. Ray invested in Meyer and Silver Oak was established in 1972. Named after its location between Oakville and the Silverado Trail in Napa Valley, Justin and Ray’s vision for Silver Oak was to devote all their resources to producing a single wine and Justin's favorite focus - Cabernet Sauvignon. Justin's vision was to perfect and make a wine that was 100% Cabernet, no blending.

  • We enjoy Silver Oak wine at home and at restaurants. We were looking forward to a stop at the tasting room but the entire experience was extremely disappointing. (We had visited another Silver Oak tas...  more »
  • One of my favorite wines, good location and service and nice atmosphere. Was already decorated for the holidays. Didn't have any food and $20 gets you 3 pouring of cab unlike Opus wine $45 for 1 pour.
  • We came for the Cabernet, obviously;) The tasting is a bit more, but their pourings are more like double. So 3 glasses didn't feel that bad. We frankly liked every glass and that hardly happens. Worth...  more »

  • Love this wine. Great Customer service. Price is reasonable 25.00 for this tasting compared to the other pretentious wineries nearby. No reservations needed for the walk in tasting. Sure makes being spontaneous fun.
  • Beautiful winery and some if the best cabernet. Cheers... 🍷🍷 One of our first and favorites. Do the tour worth it for 1st timers.
  • So and so Server was not helpful and a bit pushy, their Cabernet wine is pretty good and the place is neat. Bottles seemed a bit overpriced with $75 starting price
  • My wife and I took their main tour and had an incredible time. Our host made the tour both fun and interesting and always made it a point to refill your glass before it was empty. The grounds are beautiful and the building has an interesting history. They only produce one style but they definitely do it well. Bottles are pricey but the tour is reasonably priced for how much you experience and drink!
  • We really enjoyed our tasting. Margaret answered all our questions about Napa Cabs, and so much else besides. I would highly recommend a tasting here.
