  • Great park. It is the amazing the difference in environment the canyon has from the surrounding area. Very cool and moist. Green ferns line the canyon wall. If you have kids hiking with you, I would recommend entering from the redwood gate. The path is a lot more level and the kids enjoyed it a lot. We also only had to hike a half mile to find some ladybugs in early February. We also tried the skyline side, but trails are steep and not very kid friendly.
  • Hiking the East Ridge Trail >Stream > Fern and turning back on the West Ridge Trail. Lovely time of year (early March), with greens as far as the eye can see. Clouds and mountains beyond. Down by the stream, it's quiet and cool, as redwood forests should be. Up on the ridge trails, the paths are well groomed dirt road, broad and pretty even, with lovely sun, open air and vistas. Fern Trail is quite a climb that will challenge. This route is only 5 miles but we had to take rest stops to catch our breaths. Superb hike!
  • Lots of trails to hike around here. Trailheads are well marked so you won't get lost. Many sections have plenty of shade as well. Fairly quiet on a weekday, I didn't see anyone for the first few miles. I'll be back to check out other areas.
  • My favorite place to walk or hike. There are tons of trails from easy to advanced to explore until your day away. They have flushable restrooms, throughout the park and outhouses on the trails. There is a playground for kids, quite a few bookable picnic areas with large stone grills. There is a creative path that you can place pinecones, sticks into creative pieces of art. There are historical placards throughout to educate you about the history of the park. The wildlife here is spectacular and includes rabbits, lizards, snakes, various species of birds and more.
  • An absolutely beautiful Oasis in the middle of the Bay Area. A true hidden gem. Great place to get away for a couple of hours for couple of hours. especially if you don't have the time, or the resources to go someplace like Yosemite or deep Mountain hiking.
