Deep Creek Lake State Park is a state-operated, public recreation area surrounding Deep Creek Lake in Garrett County, Maryland, in the United States. The park features water activities, camping facilities, and recreational trails and is located about south of Interstate 68 on U.S. Route 219.For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Oakland holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Deep Creek Lake State Park and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.
Although settlers arrived in the area in the 1700s, it was the massive logging operations of the 20th century that stripped the land of its virgin forest. The park's northern hardwood forest of oaks and hickories was regenerated from the original timber stand.
The Deep Creek Lake reservoir was created on a tributary of the Youghiogheny River with completion of the Deep Creek Dam by the Pennsylvania Electric Company in 1925. The state took charge of recreation on the lake in 1980, then purchased the land underlying the lake and buffer zone properties for $17 million in 2000.
Lake activities include motor boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing, and canoeing. A campground has 112 campsites, 26 with electricity. Trails are used for hiking and mountain biking. The park's 6000sqft Discovery Center offers exhibits on local plants and wildlife, including the American black bears occasionally seen in the campground, the lake and its watershed, conservation issues, and local coal and logging activities in addition to the daily educational programs about nature and the environment presented by naturalists, rangers, and volunteers.

We did some camping as a group. So, we usually have two sites with two tents on each. The pads here are just too small. The smallest we have seen so far. We didn't have the room to put two tables...

My husband and I came here for the long weekend for a much-need break away from our busy jobs. The state park is very clean, I'm very impressed that they kept the park very clean. The beach was open for Memorial Day Weekend. I didn't see any trash on the beach or in the water. There are many bathrooms, picnic tables, and playgrounds in the park, and they have many trails for those interested in hiking. They also have a lot of parking. They do have a boat launch and dock. I sat at the lake side and just enjoyed the scenery and breeze. Very worth coming here!

We camped the first night and reserved the Yurt for the second night. The camp grounds were clean and beautiful. Wood can be purchased at the rangers station for $20 for 3 bundles. You have a fire ring and a large wood/steel frame table at each sight with a lantern hook near by. The second night we stayed in the Yurt cabin and it was super nice. The Yurt has a small 120v electric heater (fake fireplace) a mini fridge and a microwave. The beds were nice and comfortable with a queen in the center and two bunk beds on each side making 5 beds total. The Yurt has a nice half walk-around porch with a light to help you see at night. With the latrine 100ft away it was a great place to stay and will again in the future.

Fantastic State Park in Garrett County MD. Many hiking trails (from 1/5 of a mile up to 5 miles, can combine for longer). Easy to difficult. Lots of variety. Beach on the lake. Tons of picnic tables. Boat launch. Quite a bit of parking. Public restrooms. Concessions. All for a $3 entrance fee. Easy to get to. Highly recommended.

We came here over the Labor Day weekend, and it was very windy around late afternoon. Next to the boat ramp and lakeside trail, there were some parking areas. Technically visitors couldn’t drive to the lakeside trail by the Google map navigation, but the navigation would bring visitors close enough to the parking space. The lakeside trail was pretty short with a good view of the Deep Creek Lake. It might be not much to do here for visitors not having a boat.

I did not get the opportunity to swim but I did enjoy sitting on the beach. Clean area and they even rent out beach chairs. I do wish it was a bigger beach area but it was very relaxing to sit near the water. If you enjoy water sports then there are many activities. Boats and jet skis are available to rent There are also guided tours of the lake. Many restaurants and shops to choose from. Nice area to visit.
