Nuuanu Pali Lookout, Oahu

4.5
#4 of 24 in Nature in Oahu
Nuuanu Pali Lookout melds scenic vistas with a site of deep historical and cultural significance. The point, sitting over 305 m (1,000 ft) above Oahu's coastline, provides panoramic views of the Koolau cliffs and Windward Coast. Bring your camera along to capture images of Kāne'ohe, Kāne'ohe Bay, and Kailua. The tranquility and beauty of this spot seems at odds with its dark history. It was the site of one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history, the Battle of Nu'uanu in 1795, in which King Kamehameha I conquered Oahu. Nu'uanu Pali is also known for its incredibly strong winds. Avoid wearing skirts, dresses, or hats, or be prepared to hold on tight to them. • It is just a lookout. Swing by on your way somewhere nearby and get a quick pic. Must pay for parking though you'll only be here about 15-20 mins. Not sure I would deliberately drive here only.  more »
  • Parking here is terrible! I ended up running up to take a few pictures and getting back to the car before it had even gotten to turn into the parking lot. The views are amazing, though.  more »

  • Great area to look out, really nice views. Make sure to bring something a bit warmer and a wind breaker. The wind here can get super big. Our tour guide said craziest was 35mph.
  • Great lookout, we went around sunset (5-6pm in early December) and it was so windy you could barely stand up! But the view was awesome and since this was our last view of the island before flying out the next morning I'll never forget how beautiful it was. There was a cop there checking the meter and he told us not to bother paying and was just looking out for everyone's safety, lovely people!
  • Has the best view of the island! So beautiful and lush with a canyon breeze blowing over you. I could look out for hours!
  • This was a fantastic stop on my visit to Oahu. Parking is less than $5, but the experience is worth it. There are a few friendly feral cats and chickens that roam around too. Be sure to keep a firm grip on hats, phones or other loose objects because the wind here is STRONG.
  • Beautiful view. A must go place for panoramic pic. Plenty parking at very a ford able rate, complementary for locals.
