Bayernhof Music Museum features a major collection of automated musical instruments from the 19th and 20th centuries. Located six miles northeast of downtown Pittsburgh in the suburb of O'Hara Township, Pennsylvania, it is housed in German-style mansion sited on an 18-acre, dramatic overlook some 540 feet above the Allegheny River Valley.Plan your visit to Bayernhof Museum and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our O'Hara Township itinerary planner.
Bayernhof is the name of the mansion itself, a $4.2 million project completed in 1982 as a private residence by Charles Brown III, founder and CEO of Gas-Lite Manufacturing Company in Pittsburgh. The 19,000-square-foot house includes a rooftop observatory, an indoor cave, a swimming pool with a 10-foot waterfall, 10 fireplaces, eight full baths, three powder rooms, three full-size kitchens as well as a completely restored copper still.
The museum was a directive of Mr. Brown's will and it opened to the public in 2004.

A delightful experience, tucked away in a singularly wacky home on a residential street in the Pittsburgh suburbs. Every kind of music automaton imaginable, plus some you would never have imagined (e.g., a jukebox that plays Edison cylinders)! Legacy of an unparalled collector who obviously took his hobby too far -- for our benefit! You'll dream about music boxes for weeks.
Absolutely one of the most eclectic places I've ever visited. The music machines are just part of the whole experience.

A great gift from a great heart. See this place because it's amazing.
Had a wonderful day at the museum. Our tour guide left nothing out and my whole group enjoyed the tour. Don't miss it. One of Pittsburgh's treasurers.
