The Arb consists of approximately 880 acres (360 hectares) of land adjacent to the College and was created in the 1920's. It is in the process of being restored back to its original state, including prairie and forestland. Today, the Arb is an excellent resource in education, conservation, and recreation for both Carleton and the larger community of Northfield.

  • As another review here noted, the navigation is a bit confusing. I also think that some parts of the arboretum are getting a bit overgrown. There were plants so tall around the benches , the views acr...  read more »
  • We were on a college visit and took a run on the miles of trails through woods and fields. Nice varied terrain and I imagine the cross-country trails in the winter are amazing! 
  • It is not easy to navigate; even with a map. The trails are not well- marked and the only thing to tell you where you are going is if you stay on a paved trail. Pretty sightseeing though.
