  • I spend a lot of time on this rail trail, usually running more than biking. The section crossing the Connecticut river is beautiful. A lot of the trail is well shaded which helps in the summer heat. T...  more »

  • Stopped in today to ride the trail. Unfortunately I stopped to use the portable toilets first. Two of the three were disgusting! The middle one had toilet paper a foot higher than the water level. I dont know if it was an off week or maybe due to the holiday but that was not necessary. They should be kept cleaner than that. As far as the trail goes, it is not bad. The rail trails near me are a bit wider. The asphalt is in good shape. Most people are very courteous. But some of the bikers go much too fast for the size of the trail. It is not meant to be for high speed biking.
  • Great place to rollerblade & hike. Some neat geocaches on their trail as well
  • Don't get me wrong, it's great that the trail exists. However, there are a few problems that greatly reduce my enjoyment of riding my bike along the trail. One is that there are far too many intersections with the road, which of course can't be fixed now, but removing some of the bushes for better visibility would help. Also, drivers often misunderstand the purpose of the crosswalk on Damon Road, before the bridge. There is a traffic light there that turns red when the pedestrian signal is triggered: that is when drivers are supposed to stop. If the light is green for them but someone is waiting to cross, they should still drive through, as the have the green light. Once a woman became visibly angry cause she tried to stop for me, holding up a whole line of traffic, while traffic was still coming from the other side. I motioned for her to continue, pointed at the green light, but she just honked and became angry. Finally, after many attempts to wave her through, she moved on, and I waited for the light like I'm supposed to. The other issue is that pedestrians should try to stay in the right lane, and not walk two or more abreast. They have to realize that they're walking on a BIKE trail, so while it is indeed multi use, there will usually be a steady stream of cyclists, possibly commuting, who need to get by. It's very irritating to have to constantly yell "on your left!" while I'm out of breath, and often still get a confused reaction from a group of pedestrians. I understand that it's startling today be yelled at, but a good way to avoid being yelled at in the first place would be to try to bear toward the right of the lane, and be aware of your surroundings. I have pretty severe social anxiety, and I know my days would be a lot less stressful if I didn't have to worry about these micro interactions. Even worse is when two cyclists are riding very slowly, two abreast. Please don't do this: people WILL need to pass you, so riding single file is a must. Sorry if that's an inconvenience to you, but consider how much of an inconvenience it is to others to have to worry about passing you safely and politely. In summary, the trail could be so much better if people just made a little more effort to be aware of their surroundings and that other people need to use the trail, too. It's unfortunate that some days I'm forced to ride over the bridge in traffic on Route 9 because I know the trail will be too stressful for me to handle. Please be considerate.
  • Great trail with water views, nice forests, and farmlands. needs to be extended to South Hadley commons/MHC please.
  • This is a very safe trail with wonderful views. Flat with very few road crossings. Not overly crowded as say the minuteman trail, even on weekends.
