  • Always great going for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway! One of our favorite things to do. It never gets old because it always changes. To me the southern part is the best. The mountains are taller and the scenery is better.
  • The blue ridge mountains are not very tall, rugged, no gold pile has been mined under them, no parties of settlers have canabalized themselves frozen in these mountains. The blue ridge is rich is human history, housing working farmers in their hard scrabbled lives. Driving the parkway you see a beautiful set of accessable mountains that you can love.
  • Beautiful views. Highly recommended trip. Only downside was there were closures that snuck up on us.
  • There's so much to do and hundreds of ways to enjoy the Blue Ridge Mountains. I recommend going online and to Visitor Centers for more info. I love the Virginia Visitor Center on Rt 66 near Manassas, VA.
  • Located in the eastern United States and part of the massive Appalachians, the Blue Ridge Mountains stretch from their southernmost end in Georgia all the way northward to Pennsylvania. Between the Blue Ridge and the rest of the Appalachians lies the Great Appalachian Valley. When seen from a distance, the Blue Ridge Mountains appear blue – the trees that release a gas called isoprene are responsible for the bluish color and thus the mountains’ name. Within the Blue Ridge Mountains are two large national parks: The Shenandoah and the Great Smoky Mountains. The best way to enjoy and get to know Blue Ridge is by taking the Blue Ridge Parkway, a 469-mile-long beautiful scenic highway that runs along the ridge together with the renowned Appalachian Trail and which connects the two parks.
