  • Mt. Vintage Plantation GC is making progress towards being one of the premier courses in the SE that you can play. Mt. Vintage was a victim of the "Crash" and the ill financial winds that plagued many golf course developments. Maintenance suffered, and outside management was poor. However, the course was purchased this year by the resudents, and my recent visit shows rebirth is well underway. Maintenance of the course and infrastructure is back on track. Deferred projects have been completed. New carts are on-site and in-use. Most importantly, professional management and sufficient financing are in place. The staff has always been friendly, and they remain so. The three 9's are suitable for all levels of play, and the scenery is very Augusta-like. (Mt. Vintage is 12-miles from the entrance to Magnolia Lane.) I suspect the next time I play Mt. Vintage it will likely be at a full 5-star level.
  • It's hard to believe that this course at one time was the site of LPGA golf tournaments. The recent downturn in the economy has not been kind to this course. It has been through several management changes over the past few years and it shows. Suffice it to say after playing today I will not be returning. PROS Bent grass greens putted true with some dead spots and Bermuda grass growing in some others. CONS: Ruff was uncut and so thick you could easily lose a ball out of the fairways and around the greens. Bunkers were washed out and not raked. Large thick weeds were uncut over all the course. Dead spots in fairways and tee boxes. I believe you would enjoy your round more at some the other area courses that have been kept in much better shape. It's sad to see what has happened to what was once a premier golf course for this area.
