Bluff Dweller's Cave is a show cave located in Noel, Missouri. It was developed by channels of water flowing through joints in the St. Joe Limestone during the Paleozoic Era. The cave's passages total over 4,000 ft in length, with one entrance beneath a limestone outcropping of the bluff and a second entrance later discovered about 60 yards away under the rubble from a landslide.DescriptionThe cave was formed during an active period, when the ground water table was at the height of the cave, and great amounts of water flew through the cave. The impressive river passages of the cave were formed. The Ozark uplift continued and so the cave became dry. The formation of speleothems started, and the cave was accessible to prehistoric man. Later, continuing erosion by tremors and weathering, caused the collapse of the entrance section.Only 50% of the cave is developed, the remaining areas preserved for wildlife. The cave has several recognized speleothems, like cave corals and the dam in a rimstone pool which is 2.5 cm thick, 30 cm high and 22.8 meters long, one of the largest in the state.HistoryThe cave was found and explored in 1925 by the owner of the property, Arthur Browning and two surveyors employed by the highway department, Bob Ford and Bryan Gilmore. Excavation began in 1927. During excavation, substantial artifacts were discovered, including arrowheads, grinding stones, tools made of bone and skeletal remains of the early native American inhabitants, that date back to as early as 5000 B.C. Public tours began in 1927 and after over 80 years the cave is still owned and operated by the Browning family.

  • Amazing experience! Incredible cave! Our guide, Corrin, was awesome and very knowledgeable! Mary Jane and her interesting character made the whole thing even more memorable.
  • Best cave tour experience ever. Typically small tour groups. I've seen prettier caves but after the 6 others I've done , this is hands down the best experience over them all. You'll have to do a couple different cave tours to understand.
  • Corrin, our tour guide, was awesome! Cave was amazing, way different from other Missouri tour caves! Watch out for Mary jane, she can be a bit much at first, but she's great!
  • A group of 6 of us came and we enjoyed our time way to much! I had met MaryJane a couple nights prior to our actual tour, and she, alone, was the reason we came back! She was so kind and friendly. We were greeted right away and swept off to the museum for a "pre-game." our your guide Koren was HILARIOUS!! Our group stayed laughing. Well worth the small price it was! The cave itself was BEAUTIFUL and we all got a ton of great educational information! We live almost 3hrs away and want to come back with the kids already! (I'd secretly LOVE to work there!) We would highly suggest this to anyone passing through the area, or even close by it, to stop by and have a blast here!
  • I took my 2 year old and 3 year old sons to visit this cave! The tour guides were fantastic. They gave us a wonderful tour and really went out of their way to make sure we had fun. Even if this cave is out of your way it is worth the trip! I will be going back!
