So, the Cannabis town is definitely friendly, you have to go just over 10 miles off the 15fwy to check it out, but worth the stop, even if it means stopping on a beautiful open road with no cars on it for as far as you can see in either direction and stand in the middle and yes, smoke a joint! Fantastic 420 spot! It should get bigger in size as companies take the attempt to make this a worthy Venture for the money spent buying the town.
What a TRIP! We spent a couple of days here after having read an article in Sunset magazine, I believe. The newly expanded hotel now offers five bedrooms, two baths, and a lobby. Outside is a little cactus garden and just beyond the RR tracks upon which trains blow whistles at that crossing. Ergo ear plugs are provided in each room. We explored the surrounding sites including the Joshua Tree forest. I've never seen so many in such a compact area. It was an awesome discovery for us. There are a couple of historical landmarks that are preserved and tended by custodial staff in this area that added a pleasant side trip to our visit. Nipton, California was just recently purchased my a marijuana enterprise with plans to develop a resort, if I understood the news correctly.
What a treat! We got to visit Nipton on our way to other places. We had heard lots of news on the little town. The trading post rocks and the little hotel architecture is very appropriate for the desert. They were working all over the town to clean it up and they have huge plans!! Going back soon!
A somewhat secret hide-away about 45 minutes from Las Vegas for those that want lottery tickets when the line is too long at the lottery store in Primm. The old country store has some unique knickknacks and gift items available. There is also a nice little cactus garden in front of the Nipton Hotel.
Great people. One of a kind town. Well worth the trip off of I-15
