  • ...however, I do recommend going to see this park after you've seen Niagara Falls, if there's time. This part of the river is post-Falls, but check out the beautiful jade color. Also, check out the si...  read more »
  • Devils Hole is a vortex or river whirlpool. Not a lot to see here, some construction obstruction. Best part is watching the river jet boats shooting through.
  • I have been to this park a few times and never tire of its beauty... Is a little hike down and up but can also Ben enjoy from on top if more novice... I take my two young kids and they do just fine wi...  read more »
  • This was a great hike! I'd consider it moderate with the number of stairs that lead down to the main trail. The trail itself is well maintained, wide and clear. It follows along the river for a great view. Devil's Hole is a fun stopping point with large flat rocks to lay out on and enjoy the view. Parking was really easy and flushing bathrooms were available (they weren't clean). I went on a weekday in the summer and only passed a few other hikers. Watch out for snakes - I almost stepped on one in the middle of the trail.
  • I would call this one of the local secrets around the falls. Most tourists come to the falls and either look at the falls, go on the Maid of the Mist boat tours, the trail behind the falls, or the casinos on the Canadian side. Few people talk about Devil's Hole State Park though. The park itself isn't really remarkable. At first glance, it looks like a regular vista point that over looks the river. However if you adventure a bit more, you'll fine a trail that will bring you down to the river. The hike down involves navigating your way through some man made stairs that are stable but not fully flat. The hike is definitely worth the effort because the hike gets easier and the view gets better. The hike from the trail to the whirlpools is approximately 4 miles each way. The are parts that are well shaded and some that are open to the sun. So be sure to bring some sun block, some water, and wear some good shoes for a long trip. Note: some of the other trails that lead down to the river are closed for maintenance so be sure to stay on regular paths.
  • Pros: Beautiful Shady views of the Niagara Gorge. The stairs are in bad shape which is great if you are trying to work on balancing and slightly difficult maneuvers. Cons: The restrooms are downright terrible and New York state parks should be ashamed of themselves. As previously mentioned, the stairs being in disrepair should not be used by anyone with a bad sense of balance or in poor shape. Devil's Hole cave is blocked off by the state due to rock slides.
  • Wonderful hike! I loved being able to be up close to the rapids and even though I definitely did not have the right shoes for it, it was a great hike with awesome views!
  • Scenic. Well marked trail for hiking. Great place to exercise and observe the natural scenery close up. Gorgeous.
