Rosecliff, Newport

4.2
#2 of 11 in Museums in Newport
Having served as a setting in films like "High Society" and "The Great Gatsby," Rosecliff stands out among the opulent mansions of Newport. Take a self-guided tour of the home at your own pace and choose between what type of information you would like to hear. For example, after listening to basic information about the room, you can choose to learn about the architecture, specific furnishings, or life in the Gilded Age. Walk up the famous heart-shaped staircase and enjoy the views of the grounds outside. Photography isn't permitted inside the mansion. • My son and I decided to go visit some of the Newport Mansions outside the tourist season. And we had this grand ( 1902) house all by ourself. Apart from the (very friendly) staff of course. It's a bea...  more »
  • Worth the visit and they as the other mansions have a hearing device for self guided tours. Each mansion brings you a different perspective of how life was in the Gilded Age in Newport.  more »

  • Rosecliff, although smaller than the other epic homes in Newport, is still enormous relative to any other regular home. It has a beautiful patio with grand views of the ocean. The tour provides an excellent tablet player that was very easy to navigate. With this tablet, you can walk at your own pace and enjoy the home as you wish. Free, convenient parking. This home is well done and well presented.
  • Shameful site. The preservation Society has erased the history of the mansion and replaced it with a fashion exhibit. I wouldn't donate another cent for this sad display. They would be better off to put this building up for auction and let someone new treat it with the love it deserves. The original owner must be turning in her grave.
  • While Rosecliff is by no means the most decadent of the Gilded Age "summer cottages," it's worth a visit. The view from the lawn was my favorite part - a great place to sit and relax and read for a little bit. Be sure to catch the Pierre Cardin exhibit (on display through the end of 2017) if you enjoy fashion. The dresses are stunning!
  • Fascinating cultural location. Really highlights the "Gilded Age" and the people that lived in Newport during that time.
  • Was nice but tour was short and only allowed in small portion. No where as good as the Breakers. Should have gone to the Elms as our second choice like someone recommended.
