Categories: Scenic Drives, Landmarks, Tourist Spots, Outdoor Activities
Home to some of the country's best-known mansions, Bellevue Avenue represents part of Newport's historic district, which is designated as a National Historic Landmark. Almost exclusively residential, this neighborhood contains lavish mansions built by affluent summer vacationers, including the Astor and Vanderbilt families. These homes represent examples of various architectural styles and showcase designs of some of the most innovative architects working at the turn of the 20th century, like Richard Upjohn and Richard Morris Hunt. Several mansions appear on the National Register of Historic Places and offer guided tours to educate younger generations about the golden age of American architecture. Check the online tour schedule and purchase your tickets in advance. Put Bellevue Avenue into our Newport itinerary builder and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.
