Get a glimpse of the fishing industry of the past at Newport's Historic Bayfront, which still operates as a fishing port. Watch ships bring in large catches that are sold to the many restaurants lining the water. You'll notice sea lions and gulls eager to snatch stray fish. Enjoy fresh seafood and bay views at one of the restaurants. Bring along a jacket, because it gets chilly by the water. Make Newport's Historic Bayfront a centerpiece of your Newport vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Newport trip planner.

Newport's Historic Bayfront reviews
Loved walking and seeing all the shops and boats! Stopped at the barge for a burger and then Clearwater for apps and drinks. Shopped at the adorable toy store and jewelry store. more »
I've always found this bustling, working seaport with a variety of shops and restaurants to be a perfect way to spend most of a day in Newport. it's still the heart of Newport's fishing industry and.... more »
This is a bustling, working seaport. There are fishing boats, big and small. You can buy fish right from the boats if it is in season. There are sea lions lazing on the docks waiting for fish parts... more »
A REAL WORKING SEAFOOD PORT it is a great stop and the seal lions are awesome. Make it a lunch stop on your travels down the coast and take the kids .. way cheaper than the sea lion caves and really fun to watch, hear, and smell the sea lions
The Bayfront is always a nice little place to walk and explore. It seems to always be a busy place. Watching the Sea Lions never gets old. The water is always a peaceful place to be!
This place can be overcrowded when busy. It is fun to visit, with a lot of shop variety, but it can be difficult parking wise. Since it has several working seafood processors it can be a challenge for those that are sensitive to smells. If you are patient and relaxed you can have a great time.
Lots of cool shops. The sea lions in the docks below were a highlight. Go to Mo's for the best clam chowder I've ever had!
Very fun. A lot of places are open 24/7. Everywhere we went it was good food. We will come back again.
