Spend a day on the coast and admire the unusual play of waves at Devils Punchbowl State Natural Area. The highlight of the park is a natural rock bowl, the result of the collapse of two coastal caves. The bowl is partially open to the ocean, allowing waves to enter. During high surf, you can watch the waves violently swirl and foam inside the bowl. The coastline is lined with different rock formations and tide pools. In addition to wave-watching, the park offers opportunities for surfing, hiking, and picnicking. Whales migrate through this area and, in season, you can easily spot them from the beach. Love this place so much! Such an easy stop off the road. Didn’t want to leave. Great spot for sunset or picnic more »
Must see on trip down the coast. Worth the stop! Even better to view in the blustery conditions we have in winter. more »
Hard to find parking but worth it if you can!
I got here a half hour before *low* tide, so no aquatic fireworks. But it was still quite pretty!
Worth stopping by to see if already driving by. It's seriously only at most 2 miles off of the high way and you can literally drive right up to it.
Devils Punchbowl is an absolute delight to visit! We visited here on a foggy day and couldn’t make the most of it. The fog covered punchbowl looked glorious, let alone the views on a bright sunny day. From the top, the views of the beach with people surfing were top class!
